The area that would become Fremont was first settled by Europeans in the 1790s, when European fur traders traveled through what is now southeastern Ohio looking for new land to trade with the Native Americans. In 1812, Wilkinson bought 4,000 acres (1 hectare) of land east of present-day Fremont from John Marshall for $10 per acre. From this location he began to settlement his land into farms which eventually numbered over 100 parcels. By 1830, nearly all of what would become Fremont had been settled and it became an incorporated town within state boundaries as part of Territory No. 3 (Ohio). In 1837–38 George Winton built Winton House as a model house on Milwaukee Avenue in central Fremont for use as a schoolhouse and office for local officials including township trustees and assessors; it still stands today as one of downtowns most iconic buildings - note how tall its roof ridge is! When Winton died in 1840 his wife rented out part of their home to create an institute called "The Female Academy" which still exists today educating women from all walks of life about health & wellness issues across different platforms including nutrition education & business development workshops On July 22nd 1870 JOSEPH FARRELL purchased 1/4 mile east of Milwaukee Ave., corner lot #5 Irvin Road from Mrs Fenton [later becoming Dr.] FARRELL who lived there until her death on October 10th 1889 After her death five daughters HANNABETH FARRELL (1870-1948), MARGARET FARRELL (1872-1955), EVELYN FARRELL (1875-1982), LILLIAN FARREll (1877-1965) took possession but sold off much more than they could farm due to various infections brought about by frontier living conditions during World War I Then finally on November 15th 1907 EILEEN FARRELL married WILLIAM HUGHES who had just moved into town from rural Stark County himself She then administratively changed her name to ENID MORGAN BUTLER
