Fremont, Ohio is a town in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,848 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated town in Lorain County. Fremont was founded by General George Washington on April 15, 1795 as Fort Pitt Township and became part of Lorain County on January 1, 1821. The current site of Fremont was first settled by fur traders in the late 18th century who named it "New Buffalo." In 1814-15, William H. Harrison's army burned down the old fortifications to clear land for new settlement and renamed Fremont after his presidential campaign slogan "Harrison's Hope." The first permanent settler in Fremont was John Wills who arrived in 1827. He later built a cabin near present day Elmira Road and Main Street. That same year Indian Wars began around the area and Wills' cabin was destroyed by Indians led by Black Hawk during a battle at Sandusky Creek Bridge over Sandusky River. A second cabin was erected nearby about 1830 but it also burned down about 1835 which caused Wills to abandon his location permanently. In 1840, Ebenezer Cobb opened a store at what is now Elmira Road and Main Street; this store served as nucleus for what would become Fremont proper when development increased along that stretch of Elmira Road starting about 1850 from scratch with lots available for purchase from developers including Thomas Mifflin & Son (the founder of Chicago) and other early settlers like Jabez Bowen (founder of Cleveland). By 1860 there were twenty stores open in Fremont with an average daily business size of $2 per capita according to the US Census Bureau’s “Historical Statistics of Lorain County” series published every ten years between 1880 and 1920 inclusive. This period marked an increase not just because businesses grew larger but because more people came through town during that time due to railroad travel which created opportunities for good employment outside home – something that has continued into our current era with technology becoming increasingly important both economically and socially across all walks of life! One example where technology has had an especially big impact on Fremont is through its relationship with online shopping giant Amazon which operates two fulfillment centers located within one mile (1 km) of downtown while utilizing state-of-the-art air conditioning technology making their operations much cooler than even some small villages!
