He built a log cabin which served as his home until 1840 when he moved westward to start anew with his family following a Donation Land Claim Agreement made between George Washington and Joshua Kent granted by President James Kents successor John Adams on July 10, 1792 at Mount Vernon Place in Philadelphia The area now known as Fremont was laid out by surveyor William Briggs in 1836 according to plans prepared by Amos Nash for Cuyahoga Countys First Court House – located on Main Street just east of Cedar Point Road today – as well as other public buildings including sheriff's office building (now library), Historianium (now restaurant) and Jail (now hospital). The original town site lay along Cedar Point Road between deletions now made up Euclid Avenue/South Boulevard/Canal Drive and Westland Avenue/Lake Erie Boulevard today; Canal Drive ran parallel to Euclid Avenue before widening where it joins South Boulevard today; There were also areas located north of Cedar Point Road now annexed by neighboring communities such as Mentor but these were set aside for development only after further surveys revealed potential sites for industry or commerce beyond what could be accommodated within the limits prescribed by Briggs’ plan which at first included only homesites!
