When the Erie Canal was built in 1825, Fremont became the first city on the canal. It was a time of great growth for Fremont, as it became a transportation and trade center for surrounding villages. The city had many businesses that sold goods to travelers on the canal. In addition, there were also several breweries and distilleries in Fremont at this time. A few days later, General Halleck discovered that his supplies had run low and decided to attack Detroit instead; however, he was repulsed with heavy losses by Wayne who then burned down Halleck's fortifications before withdrawing his army back upriver. In 1825, Tobias Wittmer started a farm near Fremont which became one of the most important farming communities in Ohio due to its good soil and irrigation systems for agriculture during the 1800s California gold rush frenzy that swept across America during that time period Midwest farmers could sell their crops directly to consumers in cities like Cleveland or Pittsburgh without going through local farmers markets or middlemen like Milligan & Co.. This system allowed American settlers living east of Interstate 85 access to fresh produce not found west of I-85 while also allowing new immigrants from Europe easier access to land than prior generations since food prices were much lower then in North America . By 1830, Wittmer had erected a large wooden barn which served as both house and store for his family until it burned down around 1840 . In 1851 Joshua Norton incorporated Fremont into Licking County after purchasing 3 square miles from Willard Coffin along Cedar Road northeast of town limits

As Postmaster General, Swayne developed postal service within the territorial limits of present-day Ohio and helped expand trade with other states during this time period including an increase in mail traffic from California to Lake Erie through Fremont which then connected with Toledo via Pere Marquette railway line In 1849, Daniel Webster became Ulysses S Grant’s running mate for President George Washington in the election that resulted from Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. After serving two terms as Vice President under James K Polk (1851-1853), Webster returned to Congress where he served until his death on July 15, 1865 at age 70 years old following a long career dedicated to public service In 1888 Fenton Manufacturing Company opened their plant in Fremont making cans for local brewers Harpoon Brewing Company and Columbus Brewing Company which remain some of today's most popular domestic beers In 1901 Waihee Packing Corporation began production of dry ice for commercial storage The construction boom that followed World War II led to an influx of new residents and businesses into Fremont while also creating a number of new cultural landmarks such as Case Western Reserve University’sMain Campus buildings which were completed in 1945 housing both undergraduate and graduate students The war also spawned significant development outside of town including developments near Canton where aluminum manufacturing took place during wartime; East Cleveland where steel production increased; Euclid Heights which housed several large shopping malls during this time period; and Woodland Hills located just east off I-XXI Boulevard near Sandusky Avenue . In 1951 Main Street between Superior Avenue southwesterly towards Euclid Heights closed due to heavy traffic snarlages caused by Interstate Highway 90 . A year later statehood was granted to Ohio resulting in changes throughout much rural northeast Ohio including Fremont becoming one of seventeen cities authorized for incorporation within newly organized Cuyahoga County With growing suburban populations throughout Northeast Ohio overthe next few decades there has been a corresponding decrease in downtown business activity but increasing numbers people are commuting into downtown areas for work or entertainment purposes . According to 2000 US Census data almost half (45%)of all people living within 5 miles radius had worked at least once day outside their homes during 1998-2000

Fremont was founded in 1795 by Levi Strauss and his brother Jacob. The first post office was established at Fremont in 1821. In 1836, the town became a city.
