In 1892, a man named Augustus Sheppard started manufacture of an adjustable sight for rifles in Fostoria, Ohio. The company became known as Sheppard and Sons. In 1907, the company moved to its current location on West Third Street in downtown Fostoria. In 1912, Sheppard and Sons began producing binoculars (then called "spectacles") which became very popular due to their light weight and clearSeeing ability. In 1924, Sheppard & Son merged with anotherManufacturer named Sells to form the present day company--Sheppard-Sells Incorporated. At this time, the company began producing telescopes and other optical equipment including binoculars, microscopes, telescope mounts and more! Fostoria, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio located in Morrow County. The population was 1,643 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Fostoria is known for its pottery and tourism attractions, including the Fostoria Clay Museum and Fostoria Falls State Park. The first people to live here were Native Americans who called it "Wahoo" because of its many hills and high trees. In 1801, the United States government acquired land in what is now Morrow County from the Ottawa Indians under Treaty 7. This new tract included present-day Fostoria Township and parts of unincorporated portions of Scioto County. In 1806, John Stephenson built a log cabin on this site as a trading post for his buffalo hunting business with local traders from Canada and Great Britain. The Stephenson cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Fostoria (later spelled "Fosta"). By 1830, John's son James had moved here from Pennsylvania with his family and began growing crops and raising livestock which he sold to buyers throughout northwestern Ohio until his death in 1862 at age 72 years old. Fosteria became an important center for pottery production during this time because there was no other place close by where clay could be produced quickly enough to meet demand north of Cincinnati proper (the largest city in America). At Fosteria, skilled Potterites developed their own unique methods of firing pots that remain today unchanged—a process that begins by calcining fresh clay over an open flame to produce a black slag on top that helps form a hard clay body (known as “stamped” or “baked” ware). From this base material they create any type of ware desired: earthenware, stoneware, glazed ware, porcelain...the list goes on! During prohibition times (1920-1933), many rural families turned to canning instead of brewing alcohol so they could avoid Prohibition taxes levied on manufacturing operations such as pottery making; however, mostCANNING OPERATIONS ceased after 1933 when Prohibition ended nationwide due to Supreme Court rulings upholding Prohibition without Congressional ratification.. Kettle fired 1700 bricks per day prior shutdown effective NOVEMBER 10th 1921 while engine ran off coal @ $50 per ton! Today we use gasfired ovens #communitycollaboration

Fostoria is a small village in the western part of Ohio, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Scioto River. Fostoria was founded by settlers in 1821 and incorporated as a town in 1827. The community grew quickly due to its location on the Scioto River, which made it an important shipping point for goods travelling from eastern Kentucky to southeastern Ohio. Fostoria experienced growth until World War II when the military basecamp closed and factories moved into the area. During the war, Fostoria became known for producing rubber products and munitions used in World War II. In later years, Fostoriians have diversified their economy with tourism becoming a majorstay of the town's economy.
Fostoria was founded in 1814 by a group of Ohio pioneers. The town was named after the Fostoria, Indiana river. The town became an important center for the fur trade and its economy grew rapidly. In 1829, the first steamboat left Fostoria for Detroit. In 1835, the town had a population of 1,500 and it became an important commercial center. By 1840, Fostoria had become a manufacturing town with mills and businesses such as foundries and printing presses. It also served as a terminus for wagon trains carrying goods to Detroit from the Midwest. During World War II, Fostoria played an important role in the war effort by producing munitions and other materials needed by America's military forces. In 1945, the town experienced major growth when it became home to Ford Motor Company’s Wayne Assembly Plant.
