Fostoria, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the border of Luzerne and Wayne counties. The population was 2,541 at the 2010 census. Fostoria is part of the Dayton-Middletown-Daytona Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fostoria was founded in 1853 by Joshua Fenton, who named it for his father, Nathaniel Fenton. When Joshua's father died in 1859, Joshua took over management of the community and renamed it after himself, Fostoria (later shortened to "Fosta"). In 1878, a post office was established at Fosta with the name of Hendersonville; however, this post office closed in 1903. There were no mail service operations within Fosta until 1907 when an express wagon line began serving the community from Hendersonville through Newtown Township to Decatur Township and back again. This service continued until 1951 when it was replaced by a bus route operated by Dayton Municipal Railway Company. In 1911 Jerry Bickle opened a grocery store at what is now corner Main Street and Third Avenue in downtown Fosta; this store became one of the most successful small businesses in town during its early years. In 1923 Wanda Donahue opened her first clothing store at First Avenue and Elm Street; this store also became successful and remained open until 1978 when it closed due to financial problems. In 1954index Tire & Rubber Co., Inc., which had been operating out of a garage on Elm Street since 1919 started selling tires door-to-door throughout central Ohio; this business continued until 1984 when Index merged with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.; however, Goodyear never reopened their doors within town limits after that merger because they lost interest in remaining property insidetown limits.$ In 1957 Anthony’s Pizza opened up shop on Second Avenue near State Fair Park; this pizza place would remain open until 1997 when Anthony’s closed down due to economic troubles.$ A new grocery store called The Gourmet Place opened up shop on Third Avenue just east of Main Street in 1995 which would remain open until 2003 when it too closed due to economic woes.$ Another grocery store called Supermarket Village opened up shop on Fourth Avenue just north of Main Street between 2006-'07 It failed before closing down too.$ A 7Eleven convenience store called Taco Bell opened up shop on Fifth Avenue just south of main street between 2007-'08 It failed before closing down too.$ A gas station known as Shell stationopened up shop off Sixth Ave near High School soon afterwards It also failed quickly

Fostoria was founded in 1847 by Isaac Fenton. The town was named for the Fossil Creek that flowed through it. The first store in town opened on Main Street in 1848. In 1865, the railroad arrived and Fostoria became a small stop on the line. By 1889, when the railroad closed, most of the population had left for larger towns along the tracks. In 1952, Fostoria voters chose to become an independent city and incorporation began in 1953. In 1979, Fostoria merged with neighboring Union City to form a single city with a population of over 150,000 people.
