Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat for Marion County. The population was 36,654 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-largest city in Ohio. Forest Park is located on the Scioto Peninsula south of Akron, between Cleveland and Youngstown. The first Europeans to visit Forest Park were French traders who landed there on July 8, 1796, while exploring Lake Erie's eastern border with Canada. The explorers named the land "Fremont" after General George Washington's friend John Fremont because he had been instrumental in helping to get Washington elected as President of the United States in 1804. The town that developed around Fort Dearborn (now part of downtown Akron) began as a small Indian village called Nanticoke near what is now Meadowbrook Drive. In 1836, when Ohio became a state, Fort Dearborn was transferred from British control to U.S. control and renamed Forest Park on April 11 following an act by then-Governor Nicholas Collin which affirmed Ohio's admission into Confederation as a new nation underPresident James Ketchum six days earlier than planned due to裁判 issues related to voting qualifications for citizens of New York City—an issue which would become more important during the American Civil War). The park was originally just over one square mile (0.40 km²), but has since grown to include over 12 square miles (30 km²). Forest Park, Ohio is a small town in the state of Ohio located about 20 miles east of Cincinnati. The community was founded in 1837 as part of the Northwest Territory and was named for George Forest, a business man from Philadelphia who donated land to the village. It became a borough in 1907 and briefly became a city before being annexed by Cincinnati in 1915. Forest Park is home to two stadiums: the University of Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium and Fairview Heights' Maple Leaf Soccer Complex. The township has a population of about 8,000 people making it one of the most diverse communities in Greater Cincinnati. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Forest Park on March 16, 1837, when three men – George Forrest, James McLarty and Alexander Caldwell – walked from Philadelphia overland to purchase 640 acres (250 hectares) along the Miami River. They named their new settlement after George Forest, an American businessman who had contributed land to the village. By 1839, Forest Park had a post office, school and other rudimentary infrastructure. In 1907, when Cleveland annexed Forest Park into itscity limits, it renamed the community Fairview Heights after Mrs. John HoughtonFairbrothers (1827-1912), president of Wappingers Falls Trust Company which owned much of downtown Cleveland at that time. In 1915 Fairview Heights became part of Cincinnati when it was merged with neighboring Townshipville into what would become known as "Cincinnati proper." The township continued to exist until its annexation by Pittsburgh in 2003; since then it has been primarily an unincorporated area withinPittsburgh's boundaries. Forest Park experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to military bases such as Fort Donelson and Fort Knox across the river from town center. Consequently, industry played an important role in bringing traffic and development to Forest Park during this time period; commercial businesses including grocery stores opened up throughouttown while housing developments sprang up around both stadiums which helped generate additional jobs for residents. In 1812, the Ohio General Assembly approved a bill that created Forest Park. The park was chartered as a public land reserve in 1836 and became part of the City of Cleveland. In 1920, it was combined with neighbouring Lawrence Heights to form the new city of Greater Cleveland. In 1932, Forest Park was annexed by the City of Cincinnati.
