Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the north side of the Mason-Dixon line. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,887. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and was founded in 1824 as part of what would become The City of Cleveland. Forest Park was one of twelve townships within The City of Cleveland (later called The Metropole) and was first settled by members of The Methodist Church in 1824. The citys rich history can be found in its location on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie. In 1821, when Fort Pitt became an American military post at Point Pleasant on Delaware Bay, General George Washington chose it as his headquarters for operations against Native Americans living along the Great Lakes region. Washington's staff used Point Pleasant as their winter quarters from 1795 to 1800 while he explored Canada and dismantled Fort Pitt at Yorktown Heights near Philadelphia. In 1824, land east of downtown Cleveland was donated by John Dennison to be used for a town site that would include a courthouse and jail. On November 11th, 1824, James Caldwell purchased about 100 acres (40 hectares) northeastof present-day Forest Park from Samuel DeWitt Clinton for $5000 dollars (). That same year – just two years after The City Of Cleveland had been organized – Caldwell donated another tract totaling 375 acres (190 hectares), which encompassed most current day Forest Park including areas now known as Beachwood Hills and Mayfield Village This donation showed that ForestPark residents were not simply farmers or fishermen but had aspirations to connect with their greater neighbor via commerce rather than through force or violence
The Forest Park community was bordered by the village of Cleveland to the south, and the City of Cincinnati to the north. The area now known as Forest Park was first settled in 1814 by Quakers who founded a town called Deerfield on the edge of present-day Cleveland. In 1825, they moved their town east to what is now Highland Heights and renamed it Forest Park after a nearby forest. The community grew rapidly during the 19th century, with many new homes being built in what is now Forest Park's core. By 1870, there were over 1,000 people living in Forest Park. During World War II, much of Forest Park was used as an army base for soldiers stationed in Ohio and Kentucky. Several large trees near Central Avenue (now Elm Street) were cut down for fuel purposes during that war. When the war ended, much of Manor Road (now US 16/19) became rural again and most of Forrest Park's population decreased significantly. However, some new homes were built in what is now Manor Road during this time period and continue to be used today as part of the community's history.
