The Forest Park Rifle and Pistol Club was chartered in 1892. The first rifle stock company was organized in 1890, and the first pistols in 1892. At that time, Forest Park had a small population of about 350 people. In 1895, the club purchased land for a rifle range on what is now the southeast side of town. In 1897, club members built a clubhouse on this property which still stands today. In 1907, the club leased land from the Ohio Forestry Association for use as their shooting range. In 1916, the club acquired an additional 2 acres for use as their rifle range annexe. This annexe served as their main shooting ground until 1934 when they moved to their present location adjacent to US26 (now I-71). During World War I (1914-18), Forest Park Rifle and Pistol Club members joined with other organizations to form the American Legion Auxiliary No 1st Infantry Division “A” at Camp Funston outside of Cleveland. From 1917-1920 they were also able to join with other organizations such as Carpenters’ Hall United Lodge #2F Masons and Elks No 598 to become “Nationalist Rifle Association” or NRA after becoming official by Order of President Woodrow Wilson in 1920; However we continued using our original name “Forest Park Rifle & Pistol Club” until 1924 when we changed it back to our original name once again!

Forest Park is a city in the Commonwealth of Ohio, United States. The population was 20,011 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Stark County and the second-largest city in Summit County after Canton. The name Forest Park first appeared on a map of Stark County dated 1802. The town of Forest Park was platted in 1868 and named for Timothy Hutton, an Englishman who had purchased land east of Akron with money he had won at a card game. At its peak during World War II, Forest Park had a population of 507 people. In 1970, the population decreased to 17,362 as a result of heavy automation and other economic factors in the area. The first mention of forest park can be found on November 2nd 1830 when John Holmes donated two acres (0.8 km²) to be used for public purposes within what would become called “Forest Park” today’s city limits. This then became one of many forested areas that would be organized into Stark County through legislation passed by the General Assembly from early 1800s until it was abolished by statehood in 1907. As time passed, more and more settlers arrived seekingemption from Indian reservations dotting their route from Kentucky all the way down to Miami Lakes just north of Cleveland proper! With so much open space now available due to advances Technology and natural changes both good and bad; many new homes were built throughout this period including some very impressive mansions still standing today such as those located at 285 Euclid Avenue which was originally leased by Henry Clay Frick back in 1865! In 1870 when Ohio became a state it included parts or all present day Stark County including what are now downtown Akron and much older neighborhoods like Forest Park which made up part Township 1 North bounded on the south by Canfield Road & Butler Road & within boundaries set forth hereinabove known as Township 2 East! As mentioned earlier there were numerous roadblocks/prohibitions placed upon settlers expanding into these newer sections especially along roads leading out into Indian Territory particularly because ownership changed hands frequently between various factions vying for control over valuable real estate! It wasn’t until 1916 when newly elected Mayor Harry Laughlin petitioned Governor James Kusher Jr to have part or all Township 2 East transferred from Canfield Township to his own township thereby creating what we know today as Forest Park!
Forest Park was first settled in 1786 by "The trustees of theMQD (Lancaster County) Female Asylum." The land for Forest Park was donated by John Sevier and his wife, Mary. The park was named after Mr. Sevier's estate in Lancaster County. The first public park in Ohio, it was located on the northside of town and encompassed what is now parts of Strongsville, Clinton Township and Lawrence Township. In 1868, a Conservancy Society was organized to manage the park and it became a state park in 1928.
