Forest Park is a large and popular city in the heart of the United States. It is home to over 25,000 residents and contains some of the most beautiful scenery in Ohio. The park was created by George Washington in 1790 as part of his plantation on the east side of Lake Erie. It includes 8,500 acres of forest, meadow and farmland that are used for hunting, fishing, hiking, picnicking and other activities. There are also several lakes and ponds located within the park. In addition to its natural beauty, Forest Park also has a rich history dating back to its early days as a trading post for area farmers. Today it is one of the largest cities in northern Ohio with a strong cultural presence. The city was established on the site of what is now downtown Cleveland from which it developed slowly over time into its present form. The first people to live in what is now Forest Park were Indian traders who traveled through the area looking for trade goods such as fur coats and horses. By 1800 there were about 100 settlers living in or near Forest Park when Congress passed an act creating it as an incorporated town on April 16th, 1802. At that time Relief Street was still called Elm Street because trees had not yet been planted along that route yet! The town grew rapidly under new leadership with many businesses being founded including two breweries (Cleveland Brewery) soon after incorporation; six sawmills (four active until 1892); four gristmills (three active until 1907); twelve carpenters shops; ten limekilns; four soapstone quarries; three printing presses; two schools (one grade school until 1870 then one high school until 1903); two churches (Anglican and Methodist) before Cleveland Institute opened in 1892 which gave rise to nearby Hilliard Avenue becoming known as “the Avenue of Fine Arts” today). In 1911 City Council decided against annexing Hilliard Avenue so much progress had been made within the boundaries thus making it one-time Forest Park only 5% consisting mostly of commercial buildings from this initial scant population size! Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and forms a district with Mansfield and Euclid. Forest Park was founded in 1836 by surveyors working for wealthy landowner Colonel John Eckert as a hunting ground for swineherds and other hunters from neighboring townships in present-day Cuyahoga County. The first settler, James Daugherty, arrived in 1840 and built his home near what is now Clinton Avenue and Woodward Street; he named it after himself, James Daugherty Place. In 1868, Forest Park became an incorporated town when it merged with Mansfield Township to form Cuyahoga Township. The creek that runs through Forest Park today was named for Joseph Caldwell Watkins (1763–1847), who donated land to make it possible for people to live thereabouts. He had surveyed much of what is now Forest Park on his lands east of Cleveland between 1792 and 1800; during this time he also served as Surveyor General of Ohio under George Washington Irving's administration. Afterwatkins died without leaving any children behind him so issue his lands into trust to be administered by trustees until such time as one or more suitable heirs could be found; these trustees were eventually able to sell most of Watkin's holdings to settlers over time including David Houghton (1798-1875) who platted what is now Middleton Road in 1824 A group led by Captain Elijah Winslow bought all remaining Watkin land west of Clinton Ave., platted their village called "Forest Park" around 1830 A post office opened at "Forest Park" in 1835 which continued until 1959 When that office moved away from downtown Cleveland due to fire restrictions then renamed "Cleveland Heights", its building stands still today across FirstEnergy Stadiums parking lot
