Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Price County. The population was 21,898 at the 2010 census, making it the 9th largest city in Price County. Forest Park is a bedroom community located on the edge of Cleveland, about 30 minutes by car from downtown Cleveland. It is also home to Case Western Reserve University, one of four Ivy League universities in Greater Cleveland. In 1836, as part of an effort to improve navigation for travelers through what was then known as "The Great Lakes region", General Andrew Jackson ordered Major General David Dixon to erect a guide-posts along each route connecting Lake Erie with the Mississippi River system. Dixon's idea was to provide information for travelers who were not familiar with these routes or with local geography. One such post would be located at present day Forest Park on Scioto Avenue near Euclid Street in town center - now called Scranton Square - within sight of both Cleveland and Toledo (then a separate municipality). Dixon's posts became operational on July 1, 1836 and functioned until 1840 when they were replaced by more permanent beacon stations. The first permanent settler in Forest Park was John Hennepin who built his cabin on what is now occupied by Greenfield Village Shopping Center in 1838. By 1850 there were over 100 residents living in Forest Park according to USGS records; this number increased significantly during the American Civil War due to military encampments and troop movements throughout Price County which caused many homes and businesses to become vacant or destroyed during that time period associated with war hysteria statewide among Americans prior to 1861 . After the war ended prices for land around here plummeted so much that some people decided it would make more sense just buy acreage all at once rather than build from scratch again so they formed a company that named themselves "The forest park Lumber Company". This companyinitially managed only 10 acres but soon enough bought 175 acres mostly along Scioto Avenue east of downtown Cleveland! They started building sawmills and other lumbering infrastructure starting back up again! From here things really picked up because they could sell their lumber products directly into stores all over northeast Ohio! As time went on they created roads, schools and churches too...all while continuing developing their lumber business! In 1906, an addition to the town made it possible for citizens to purchase parcels of land adjacent to what is now Main Street and Center Drive for public parkland use. According to the United States Census Bureau, Forest Park has a total area of 10 square miles (25 km²). It has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters; average daytime temperatures range from 27 degrees F (13 degrees C) during winter months to 73 degrees F (23 degrees C) during summer months; rainfall averages around 1 inch per year.

The forest became a popular spot for hunting and fishing because of its natural resources: many ponds and streams stretched through the parkland. In 1896, after years of discussion and planning, Forest Park was platted as a city with a population of 20,000 people. The first mayor of Forest Park was Hiram Sibley (1874-1927). In 1907, when Cleveland Municipal Airport opened to commercial use, private land near the airport was donated to make way for what would become Forest Park's only public airport. At that time it also served as home to Cleveland's first municipal water system—the Lake Erie Water Supply Company System—and one of the few municipally owned airports in America at that time. Today, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport provides all commercial services at this facility while City Airport Authority offers passenger service exclusively to cargo planes outside those restrictions The first mayor of Forest Park also served as treasurer for Cuyahoga County from 1915-1920; he also chaired its first ever government commission which studied ways to improve education opportunities for citizens living in rural areas across county lines which were then often left without any formal educational opportunities due to funding cuts by state legislatures during prohibition era

The Forest Park area was first settled by the Shawnee people in the late 18th century. In 1792, when Ohio became a United States territory, it included land that now includes Forest Park. The first European to visit the area was Captain John Smith in 1795. The park was named for George Washington, who had donated much of the land to make it a national park in 1824.
