By 1830 there were 8 small settlements within 7 miles (13 km) or so of where Forest Park would eventually be located including Georgetown (now Jenison), Brookville (now Union Township), Arlington Heights (now Arlington Heights), Spring Grove (now Sylvanburg), Wexford (now Mount Vernon Township), Whitehall Township and Middleburg Township In 1824, General David Wilkinson purchased 640 acres (2 hectares) bordering Delaware County from George Washington Carver for $100 Two years later Wilkinson had bought 1,000 acres more adjacent to present day Cincinnati based on some surveys he had made himself Wilkinson’s purchase created one half mile wide commercial strip called “Great Northern Road” running north/south through all these new acquisitions with stores selling everything from groceries to hardware to slaves This roadway still exists today passing between Dayton eastbound and westbound near US 24 & I-75 exit 5A

In 1945 an experimental nuclear reactor operated by Westinghouse Electric Company went critical at Oak Ridge National Laboratory creating an ecological disaster that has not been fully resolved since then; however some residents have moved back into Forest Park and continue living there today despite this history
The Forest Park area was part of the greater Toledo area until 1807 when it became its own town. The first settler in what is now Forest Park was Nicholas Silliman, who came to the area in 1788. In 1800, Daniel Webster bought land in the forest park and donated it to the State of Ohio. The state built a gristmill on the site in 1802 and a sawmill in 1805. A post office was established at Forest Park in 1809, and a school was started there in 1812. In 1870, a railroad station was built at Forest Park and traffic increased so much that a second station was needed. The village of Forest Park began to form around this time, with small shops and residences being built along Main Street. By 1880, there were over 300 residents living within the village limits of Forest Park. In 1912, Cleveland Mayor John Prentice presented an ordinance creating Forest Park Township which would include all of what is nowForest Park as well as most of what is today Lucas County. This made it possible for people from other villages near Toledo to live within easy reach of their jobs and homes while also preserving much of the open space that had been used by these villagers for centuries. In 1933, President Franklin D Roosevelt announced his plan for World War II which called for American troops to be sent into Europe to fight against Nazi Germany. On June 6th, 1939, General Douglas MacArthur ordered all US forces out of Europe except for forces guarding French soil; under this order all military personnel inside France were turned into civilians on July 1st., 1939- effectively ending military service among US servicemen inside France before they could even deploy themselves! Forest Park Township continued to exist until 1975 when it merged with neighboring townships (Lorain County) to form Lucas County.(See History Of Lorain County.)
