From 1968 until 1977,[1] two mayors served consecutively – Melvin Jurgensen (1970-1974)and Sheldon Silver (1977-1981).[2]During these years finding local jobs wasn't difficult due to numerous technological advances such as computers which opened up many opportunities for local businessmen;[3][4] however during 2nd Mayor Silver's term crime rates increased significantly thanks mainly to organized crime groups operating out of Cleveland`s South Side.[5][6] During his 2nd term Crime rates decreased slightly but increased again under 3rd Mayor Quickenburg who focused more on Economic development initiatives like creating Job Training Centers & increasing police manpower
Findlay is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Richland County. The population was 497 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Richland County by population. Findlay is one of four cities in Greater Cleveland—the others are Cleveland, Akron, and Canton—and is home to many factories that have closed since 2000. The first post office in Findlay was established on July 1, 1826, under the name "Hendricksville". The current post office was established on March 15, 1903. In 1850, John Cranch erected a log cabin on what is now Elmwood Avenue near present-day State Route 422. In 1853, George Stephenson built a sawmill on the north side of SR 422 east of present day Elmwood Avenue and continue milling logs until 1861 when he sold it to Jno Pemberton for $814 cash. Pemberton continued running it as an Independent company until 1865 when he bought out his partner's shares and became an owner/operator of the Mill River Navigation Company with its own sawmill at Washington Mills located about two miles south of today's Elmwood Avenue and just west of where US 222 crosses Elmwood Avenue today This company operated between 1870-1877 before being taken over by Lewis Machine Works which operated from 1877-1899 before going bankrupt After bankruptcy Lewis Machine Works reopened as American Iron & Steel Corporation (AISCO) which manufactured various types of steel products including locomotives In 1984 AISCO merged with United States Steel Corporation (USC) forming United States Steel & Copper Corporation (USTCC) which produced copper products including pellets and wires before ceasing operations in 1986 After USC closed down UTCC inherited all assets from USC including their mills,, plants and employees
