Findlay is a town located in the western part of Ohio, about 25 miles west of Cleveland. The population was 9,968 at the 2010 census. Findlay is named after Mr. and Mrs. George Findlay, who donated land to the town in 1836. The town was incorporated on February 14, 1868. The first post office in Findlay was opened on November 12, 1836 by John Haggerty. It served for six years until it was closed on July 15, 1840 due to lack of mail traffic (the original route from Cleveland to Toledo passed through Medina). On January 10, 1870, an act providing for township organization was approved by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Morton; therefore, Findlay Township form took effect on that date. In 1876 there were only 4 people living in [township] according to one source so it may have been organized around that time too! There are several sources claiming this number increased over time though so it's hard to say definitively for sure... In 1886 when Dayton completed its annexation into Cleveland County we had 5 people living here according to one source- pretty much doubling our current population! This growth continued unabated until 1911 when all but two residents left because of prohibition efforts within their community led by then Mayor Drayton Weiser (not mentioned earlier!). So between 1886-1911 there were a total of 11 departures from [township]."
