Findlay, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio located on the border of Butler and Trumbull counties. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,831. The name "Findlay" comes from an early English settler, John Findlay, who named his land east of present-day Findlay after his home town in Lancashire, England. By 1825 it had become a town with a population of 553 and was chartered as such by Congress in 1827. A post office was established at Findlay in 1850 and continued operation until 1908 when it relocated to nearby Centerburg. In 1860 the Union Pacific Railroad reached Findlay via its line through Trumbull county and soon began providing passenger service to local businesses along its route; this led to increased economic activity which helped support street cleaning programs initiated by Mayor George Jarratt during that decade.
