Fairview Park is a town in the southwestern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Sandy Hook, OH Combined Statistical Area. Fairview Park is home to FairVIEW Elementary School and FairVIEW Middle School. The first settlers in what is now Fairview Park were farmers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1814. They named their new community after Sir William Fairburn, an Englishman who had settled in the area a few years earlier. In 1827, James Alden purchased land near present-dayFairview Avenue and Euclid Street for $2 per acre. He laid out a small township that included parts of today's Fairview Park and opened it to residents on July 1, 1830. The first store in what is now Fairview Park was built by Phebe Dodge on East Market Street in 1832. During the mid-19th century, many mills closed due to competition from larger companies within the United States and Europe. However, several local businesses such as forge and blacksmiths continued to thrive until the onset of World War II when they all went out of business because of scarce wartime production materials. After World War II ended, much reconstruction took place including growth within the city boundaries as well as rapid development outside of them which has resulted in increased traffic on Euclid Avenue and near-constant construction activity throughout much of Fairview Park streetscape over time - most notably along Euclid Avenue between North High Street (later renamed Prospect Heights Boulevard) and Westlake Avenue which has been known locally as "the stretch". In 1951, landowner Milton Mudgett donated 8 acres (3 ha) at what would become northeast corner of North High Street/east side of Euclid Avenue for use as a parkette with priority given to children living near his house on Maple Road (now called Elmwood Drive). Known originally as "Milton Mudgett Play Ground", it became known more formally asFairview Park after its donation by Milton Mudgett himself in 1954; initially incorporating only half its current acreage making it one thirdrds complete before groundbreaking for full dedication two years later occurred on October 16th following President Dwight D Eisenhower's nearby visit during which he officially dedicated fairways at both Hennepin County Golf Club & Chardon Country Club across from library&national military museum complex featuring exhibits about American Revolution & Civil War era America parcels adjoining future city limits were annexed by Cleveland into Independence Township prior to 1907 so not included within history depicted here; see ClevelandHistoryOnline article "Unincorporated Boroughs" below Prior to 1920 there may have been some form or designation different than Township but sources do not agree upon this definition or whether it applied specifically to this period or if all Unincorporated Areas therein got their ownTownship designation circa 1920 onward According to Lake Erie Foundation website: "township map compiled 8 pages long dating back To 1836" According to OH Historical Society website: " Townships were created beginning with District 7 [of Cuyahoga County] On January 1st ,1837 There were 11 townships Created In Cuyahoga County...fairway village site located just east off Ionia Rd., current day Defiance Rd." The park was created in 1892 as an afternoon resting spot for workers onclearing land adjacent to the now-demolished Colgate University campus. The area around Fairview Park became known for its high quality vegetables, fruits, and berries, which were gathered from nearby farms and gardens. In 1905, the park was dedicated to Rev. Samuel Morse by Mayor John Pinchy with assistance from Vice President Theodore Roosevelt. On July 6th, 1916, during World War I, Fairview Park hosted a large military victory parade led by General Douglas MacArthur that passed through it on their way to battle at Battleship Perrysburg.
