The hammer was first brought to Fairview Park by Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Smith in 1951. It was later donated to the park by their son, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lutzfeldt, who also served as its custodian until his death in 1984. The Gun Hammer is a unique relic that is still used today to pounding nails into wood or other materials with force and precision. The hammer was designed by George Harkness, an American craftsman who lived in England during the 19th century and modified a design used by British gunsmiths. The Gun Hammer is one of only a few antique firearms relics remaining in the United States today from the late 18th century through the early 20th century. The Fairview Park Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1868. The club became afraternal organization in 1898. In 1902, the club changed its name to the Fairview Rifle and Pistol Club. The club operated out ofFairview Park until 1916 when it moved to nearby Brookside. In 1922, the club merged with the Cleveland Rifle and Pistol Association to form the National Firearms Association (NFA). In 1934, NFA merged with the American Gun Owners Association (AGOA) to form what is now known as Americans for NRA Reform (ARRA).
Fairview Park is a census-designated place in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,059 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The first Fairview Park was established in 1811 when Colonel George Fairview donated land to make way for a new township. The name of the park changed several times before it became Fairview in 1872. The park contains a wide variety of recreational activities including baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer and golf courses as well as a lake that provides fishing and swimming opportunities. There are also trails that lead to various points within the park. A large playground built by FairVIEW Parks Incorporated in 1983 anchors one edge of the park and spans an overall length of . Other major attractions include an amphitheater/festival complex with three stages and an outdoor movie theater; two shopping centers: one anchored by Sears Roebuck & Co., with over 20 stores (including four JCPenney stores) and one anchored by Weisman's Department Stores with over 25 stores; five restaurants: Buffalo Wild Wings, Doner Kebab House Indian restaurant, Golden Corral Mexican restaurant, Hungry Horse Brewery & Distillery Barbecue Place and Ruby Tuesday's; as well as four small parks - Warmerthwaite Pond Recreation Center near its eastern edge, Grosse Pointe Woods North Recreation Center on its western edge (shared with Maple Heights), Pioneer Square near its southern extremity - all open to the public without charge during daylight hours only.

Fairview Park is a small town in eastern Ohio, located on the Scioto River. It was founded in 1814 by Loyalists from northeast Pennsylvania, and became part of the United States in 1787. The park is named after Fairview Manor, a plantation that once sat on the site. The first settler to live in what is now Fairview Park was John Sanders. He arrived in 1814 and built a cabin near the bank of the Scioto River. In 1815, he married Rachelle Bigelow and they started a farm around this time. By 1830, John and Rachelle had five children: three boys and two girls. One daughter died young in childbirth; her brother took over the farm until she could be born again. In 1835, John's son-in-law James Kephart moved to Fairview Park from Wadsworth Township (now Union Township) in northeastern Ohio. James was an experienced landowner who had owned several thousand acres of land between Fairfield County and Muskingum County since his arrival in America circa 1792 as one ofrunnerup to fellow Quaker James Caldwell at home with his family soon after arriving from England via shipwreck off Cape Coast Castle on November 5th, 1697 A full year before Pennsylvanian William Penn actually founded Pennsylvania as an English colony on October 14th of that year! On July 8th, 1840 Charles Goodspeed established himself as a white trader at the mouth of Beaver Creek near present day Portsmouth while exploring what would become Erie County for prospective settlers including General David Teed who also landed there earlier that year seeking new lands westward across Lake Erie - although not yet knowing it then!! This early settler activity along Beaver Creek likely contributed to its eventual name change – village instead of town – reflecting their common interest at this time which may have been transportation opportunities onto or through their newly surveyed territory! At some point prior to this date (mid 1800’s?) craftsmanship began building dams across Beaver Creek which resulted in creating today’s village boundaries where these later dams still stand! A post office called "Beaver Dam" was established hereon October 15th1841 by Samuel Morse & Alfred Vail with mail service beginning September 9th1842 thru May 25th1847.(Morse being inventor/motorist mainly responsible). On February 21st 1893 local resident George Wills opened up Beechwood Mercantile Company doing business as “Wills Drug Store” concurrently operating all other local businesses within city limits(including post office)! There were originally six independent businesses included within corporate limits but only four remain extant today remaining part of city government structure today! Another important early community development occurred when water main lines were constructed bringing natural gaslight into neighborhood starting December 30th 1848!!! This wellspring produced much civic discussion over early years leading up eventually TO THE ELECTION OF MAYOR IN 1951!!! Fairview Park was originally part of the Township of Fairview, in the present day Cuyahoga County. On July 1, 1814, it became a part of the newly formed Village of Cleveland. The first major development at Fairview Park was the construction of a public school in 1828. A charter for what is now Cleveland-Marshall College was granted on November 15, 1834 and classes began on January 13th, 1935. The park also served as home to an agricultural fair which took place annually from 1870 until 1955 when it moved to nearby Mayfield Gardens due to city growth. In 1898, Garfield Heights annexed part of Fairview Park and renamed it Garfield Heights Park after Ulysses S. Grant's presidential library and museum located there. In 1907, East Cleveland annexed part of FairView Park making it all within the boundaries of the new city limits. In 1928, construction began on what is now Quicken Loans Arena which would become one of the most iconic and popular venues in sports history. The arena would host numerous events including the 2004 Summer Olympics and multiple NBA Finals appearances over its years in use. In 2007-2008 some work began on expanding Greenbelt intoFairview Park with plans for both retail space as well as a mixed use development that would include office buildings as well as residential units amongst other uses
