Fairview Park is a small town located in Medina County, Ohio. The population was 1,852 at the 2000 census. It lies on the border of both Green and Summit counties. The first settler in Fairview Park was Samuel Pickering, who arrived in 1814. He built a cabin on the east side of Fairview Lake. The village of Fairview was platted in 1825 by Jno. Boggs and named for Pickering's cabin. A post office called Fairview had been established in 1827, but it closed due to difficulty getting mail to the town. In 1830, John Fenton erected a sawmill on the north side of fairVIEW stream. That mill remained operational until 1896 when it was replaced by a larger one that still stands today. In 1861, George Atwater bought land at right angles to the main street between his house and store and began building what became known as Atwater's Run Station (later known as Fairview Park). This station served as an early depot for transportation along the Miami River Valley. It also served as a stop for travelers going westward from Mansfield and other points along the river valley. By 1870, Atwater had constructed several homes near his station including one now known as Atwater House No 2 (now part of First Congregational Church). He died in 1872 and is buried at East Pike Road Cemetery within walking distance of his original home4Today, remnants of Atwater's Run Station can be seen throughout much of FairVIEW Park6It should be noted that unlike some other pioneer settlements which grew rapidly thanks to easy access to natural resources like timber or waterpower, FairVIEWPark languished for many years without major development untilreaction from entrepreneurs such as businessmen John Dickey7and Reuben Payson led to significant growth beginning around 19008Dickey & Payson were two men who invested their time and money into developing what would becomeFairVIEW Park into an important cultural center for Medina County9Their investment paid off; by 1910FairView park contained over 150 businesses10This growth continued through World War I11when industry slumped after coal prices collapsed12but resumed quickly after war ended13and again during postwar thru 1930s14a period characterized by increased industrialization15and urban encroachment16 One measure that helped promote rapid economic activity inFairview Park during its early years was its location adjacent to valuable agricultural land which yielded high profits from sale of goods sold within village limits1 farmers here marketed their produce directly to consumers rather than selling it through merchants outside the village2 this system allowed villagers more control over pricing and product assortment3 additionally, farmers benefited from good transportation links available within the vicinity4 these connections facilitated easy trade between villages; goods brought into Village were usually unloaded at nearby mills before being traded across county lines5 this process created an environment where villagers could cooperate effectively with each other6

The town was founded in 1815 by General George Washington as a hunting and fishing camp for his troops during the War of 1812. It was named after Sir John Fairfield, an English gentleman who donated land to the town. In 1843, Fairview Park became a mill town, and saw its first commercial development when it became the site of the first gristmill in Ohio. The mill closed in 1907 but continued to be used for residential purposes until it was demolished in 1965. Since its establishment as a community, Fairview Park has been home to many famous residents including George Washington Carver, Wernher von Braun, and Oskar Schindler. In recent years, it has become known for its annual agriculture festival which features local farmers from all over Ohio competing in various agricultural events.
Fairs were an important part of the culture and history of Fairview Park, Ohio. The first fair was held in 1819. The fairgrounds were originally located on the east side of Fairview Avenue. In 1845, the park was moved to its current location on the west side of Fairview Avenue.
