Fairview Park is a community in the northwest corner of Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States. The park is located on the Scioto River and features a nearly mile-long bike path that runs through it. It was founded in 1892 by landowner John A. Fairview and located near his home on the north side of the river. In 1903, Fairview donated land to make room for what is now Fairview Park Community College. The park has been enlarged several times since then and its boundaries have changed slightly with each addition of new property. The first people to live in present-day FairVIEW PARK were families from Ashtabula County who migrated there beginning in the late eighteenth century. Most of these pioneers had farmed land along the Scioto River or adjacent rural areas for years before settling here permanently around 1800. Farming was an important economic activity in early Ashtabula County, as corn, beans, wheat and other crops were grown both irrigationally and manually using large tracts of flat ground that could be cultivated year-round because of available water resources and mild temperatures (winter months were much colder than summer). By 1892, John A. Fairview had acquired title to over 1 square miles (2 km²) within present day FairVIEW PARK COMMUNITY COLLEGE grounds following his purchase of approximately 5 square miles (15 km²) adjoining logging lands lying east of today's Scioto River Bridge across which he campaigned tirelessly throughout 1891/92 while also building up support among local farmers for his proposal to donate this tractage to create a public forest preserve overlooking downtown Ashtabula between High Street on the west bank and Woodward Avenue on the east bank – idea which received enthusiastic endorsement from Mayor Jethro Cuyler despite opposition from some key business leaders who feared increased traffic congestion at what would become one of America’s largest commercial districts – developers included Jethro Cuyler himself! Fairview Park was founded in 1851 as a farming community. The first house was built on the present site of the park in 1852. The community grew quickly and by 1875, Fairview Park had a population of over 200 people. In 1916, the city of Dayton merged with the town of FairVIEW PARK to form one municipality. The park's popularity led to its expansion in 1958 and 1964. In 1968, the park became part of the Dayton-Cincinnati metropolitan area. The following year, Fairview Park opened its own amusement park, The Fairway, which remains operational today. In 1998, Fairview Park underwent a $10 million renovation that included new sports fields and an updated concession stand. Today, Fairview Park is home to many recreational activities including baseball diamonds and tennis courts; it also serves as a popular location for concerts and festivals.
