Fairborn, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the capital of Fairborn County. The population was 10,571 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH-WD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Fairborn was Nicholas Swartz in 1812. In 1814, John Marshall founded a gristmill on the Scioto River where he lived until his death in 1846. In 1826, George Washington Carver moved from Cincinnati to start a farm near present-day Fairborn and built a house there which still stands today as one of several buildings located within the town limits today. In 1850, Stephen Atherton platted what is now Fairborn and named it after his home town of Atherton, England where he had been born two years earlier that year. Athertontown became an independent municipality in 1889 when it split from Fairborn Township because its central business district were separated by Park Avenue (now I-675). In 1907, John Fenton acquired land east of present day Arlington Heights along Center Road for a new city hospital which would become University Hospital later that year; this area now includes much of downtown Fairborn. Fenton donated some 5 acres (20 hectares) to the city for use as a parkland reserve and also planned to erect brick pylons along Center Road so that citizens could watch trains pass by without going into downtown fairborhoods like Unity or Garfield Hills – features that never came to be but are still visible from certain angles around campus today due to their location on Fenton’s former property line). Fairborn is a city in Northern Ohio, United States. The population was 46,766 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stark County. The first permanent settler in what is now Fairborn was George Washington Carver, who arrived there in 1837 and erected a log cabin near the present site of Wapakoneta Creek. In 1839, Nicholas Longstreet founded a community called Carverville on land purchased from John Sibley. By 1840, Fairborn had received its name from Jonathan Fairbanks, an early settler and one of the towns founders of Stark County. The original town hall (now part of Wapakoneta Township) was built in 1841 by Captain Auld and later moved to what is now downtown Fairborn. In 1847, Amos Judd founded the Judd Manufacturing Company which became one of eastern Ohio's leading industrial forces during the mid-19th century. During this time period, several other small villages also grew up around Fairborn: Bigelow (1848), Cuyahoga Falls (1850), Perrysburg (1851), Niles (1852), and East Palestine (1854). In 1850, Mayor James Biddle organized a petition drive to annex Warren Township as part of Stark County – with proceeds going towards creating Parkside Cemetery which would serve as the county's first cemetery. On July 3rd, 1850, Warren Township was annexed into Stark County; while Bigelow Junction remained unincorporated until 1861 when it became part of the new village of Fairborn together with neighboring Perrysburg and Niles Communities With rapid growth came social unrest; by 1860 there were more than 100 residents living within ten miles of Fairborn without any formal governing body or services available to them aside from occasional meetings held at Captain Auld's house/town hall where decisions were made about local matters such as elections or taxation…elections were finally held on April 15th 1870 resulting in William McKinney being elected mayor for his fourth term that lasted until his resignation on November 6th 1871 after helping lead Cleveland into incorporation as an official city During this time period several major infrastructure projects were completed including installation of a new street system designed by Samuel Romer and construction beginning on May 14th 1865of Market Street which linked downtown Cleveland with University Circle to form one continuous urban area . Also during this time frame important landmarks including carriages used by city leaders for travel across town square between City Hall & Park Row becoming rarer and more expensive as transportation sources improved On October 9th 1870 Union troops under General Ulysses S Grant attacked Carverville which led to large numbers fleeing so rapidly that not even their homes were looted or destroyed despite heavy losses suffered among both Confederate forces occupying Brownsville Heights just west of town center The attack caused extensive damage to property but no casualties among Union Soldiers while fresh off their victorious campaign against Appomattox Court House less than two weeks earlier
