Fairborn is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 921 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County. The first Europeans to see what is now Fairborn were Spanish travelers who founded the town in 1788 on land purchased from the Shawnee Indians. In 1803, George Washington's General Philip Schuyler founded a post office here and named it after his home state of New York. The town grew rapidly with settlers coming from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other parts of the Northeast during the 1800s. A railroad reached Fairborn in 1837, making it an important center for trade and transportation in central Ohio. By 1881, Fairborn had become one of the largest cities in Ohio with over 100 housing developments and 1,500 businesses. During World War II Fairborn became an important manufacturing center for munitions production due to its significant concentration of heavy industry and its location near strategic points such as Toledo along Interstate 75. After the war ended, many factories closed butFairburn reopened as a small college town with high concentrations of arts and technology firms until 2001 when its economy shifted to services due to population growth in nearby Toledo. In recent years there has been efforts to revive downtown Fairburn which has seen some mixed results including gentrification that has led to displacement of local residents while also increasing commercial activity around Main Street which hurts local businesses; however overall community involvement remains strong despite these issues

Fairborn is a city in Monroe County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Monroe County. The first permanent settler in what is now Fairborn was Nicholas Goodrich and his family who arrived on a boat from Rhode Island on November 15, 1796. In 1802, John Faircloth purchased land from Nicholas Goodrich and began to develop it into what is today Fairborn. The first house in Fairborn was built by Capt. John Prentice in 1806. A post office called Fairborne had been established in 1807, but it was discontinued in 1809 because of the American Civil War. The present day courthouse building was built between 1830 and 1839 by contractor Isaac Hutton for General David Silliman as part of a larger project to expand the frontier town of Cincinnati which included other buildings such as an opera house and schoolhouse. The cornerstone for the new courthouse was laid on July 8, 1830 by Mayor James Shields and First Lady Mary Ann (Hagopian) Silliman with help from President Andrew Johnson. After years of construction and design changes, including adding an internal courtyard and two stories high (the second story being added when Cleveland annexed the township), the original courthouse finally opened its doors on October 10, 1840 following a campaign led by Mayor Shields that successfully lobbied state legislators to appropriate $5,000 towards its construction. Like most American cities during this time period, business affairs were conducted through informal networks of merchants acting as middlemen between farmers who supplied goods they produced or exported and merchants who bought these exports back at depressed prices before reselling them abroad or exporting them again themselves; henceforth known as "export shops".
