Fairborn is a city in central Ohio, United States. The population was 11,595 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County. The name "Fairborn" comes from the French word "Faire Breton," meaning to do good in Brittany. In 1814, General Harrison moved his army from New Orleans to what is now Fairborn after being ordered by President James K. Polk to do so as part of Operation Crossroads. The city was founded on May 1, 1825 when two settlers named Lewis and Clark arrived in a small wagon train from Kentucky and started clearing land for a town site. In 1830, John Davenport purchased 160 acres (60 ha) of land east of present-day Fairborn for $5 per acre ($40 per ha). On July 3, 1830, Davenport organized the first township in Lucas County – Fairborn Township No. 2 – with voting rights for men only and no female residents allowed until November 4, 1830. At that time there were just twelve families living in Fairborn Township No. 2 and its boundaries grew slowly at first because most early settlers did not want their land divided up between them and instead banded together to form villages or townships near their homes or businesses: Elmira (1831), Northville (1832), Southwick (1833), Clinton (1835), Watsonville (1836), Xenia (1837), Carpentersville (1839), Ottawa Heights (1841). The original town plat was filed on December 13, 1834 with David Lapp as recorder; it included an area bounded by Brush Creek on the north side and Newtown Road on the south side; today's intersection of Elmira-Clinton Roads forms one corner of this plat which also includes much of eastern portions of Lucas County today including parts of Byron Center On February 14, 1836 Ironwood settler Ziba Coleman laid out a village northwest of present-day Painesville called Nanticoke off US 21 near mile marker 231; Coleman had previously laid out what would become Painesville along Green Road about three miles southwest of his original settlement during a survey conducted by Colonel John Prentice under orders from President Andrew Jackson Nanticoke never materialized but nearby Ironwood established itself as a village with several stores operated by Indians before eventually moving away entirely around 1840 while Nanticoke built an gristmill on High Creek southeast of present day Painesville which still stands today . nearby Whitehall also established itself as an unincorporated community before becoming a full town in 1845 . John Ahern became proprietor/managerof Nanticoke’s gristmill after it burned down in 1865SR #41004) . Today’s intersectionState Route 523 & State Route 422 serves as both endspoints for Nanticoke Rd., one mile northeast & three miles south respectively

Fairborn, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the capital of Fairborn County. The population was 8,439 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Fairborn County and its second-largest city overall. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first known permanent settler in what is now Fairborn County was Nicholas St Clair, who arrived on an Englishman's brigantine from Boston on October 16, 1781. He named his new land "Fallowbrook". In 1801, James Kapp founded the town of Akron on land he had purchased from Nicholas St Clair. The town grew rapidly due to its location by stagecoach routes connecting Cincinnati with Cleveland and Toledo; as well as being accessible by canalboat through downtown Akron. In 1814, General John Pendleton ordered Captain David Wilkinson to take all American Indian slaves remaining in British East Florida back to America so they could be freed and become citizens of their new country; Wilkinson took 562 slaves with him when he enteredprisingly built a ferry across the Maumee River from his settlement at Richland Township near present day Fairborn to transport them to Akron (then called Richland) where they were sold into slavery upon their arrival. In 1836–37, Christopher Morrill organized what became the United States Civil War effort in Ohio; many soldiers serving in early bloodless battles for Union forces were residents or natives ofFairborn City or nearby Starke Township who had been recruited during military drills conducted there every week by local schoolteachers under then-Union Major General George Armstrong Custer as part of Commander-in-Chief William Tecumseh Sherman's February 7–9 plan called "March To The Sea." While most men living within easy walking distance enlisted initially for one year only - including over 100 men from Fairburn - significant numbers served continuously until after July 4th 1870 (the end of Reconstruction). Thereafter Union troops stopped conducting drill operations at home but continued coming into town for supplies until disbanding on November 1st 1870 less than a week before ChristmasElection Day due largely to lack of food and other necessary items available nearer battlefields outside Ofallon Township On January 6th 1872 Anthony Ladd purchased 1/4 acre (0.20 hectare) east off High Street between Wabash Avenue and Elm Street from Jacob Myers for $5 per acre ($128 per hectare). This property would later become Ladd’s Park which included much of today’s south side along High Street between First Avenue and Elm Streets . On April 15th 1880 Louden Hogg donated 128 acres (50 hectares) southeast corner lot number 3rd street southwest corner lot number 10 miles northwest corner lot number 2nd street north line about two rods westward extending thence unto Lake Superior about two rods wide just beyond old abandoned house located there since late 1800’s known as “Hogg Manor” Ohio State University began operations on October 14th 1887 with three students: Ebenezer Eliot , Augustus Kelley In 1916 Jane Addams opened her home Hull House here while she was working towards becoming a social worker which continues today as Hull House National Women’s Shelter
