Fairborn is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Fairfield County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,569. The city is located on the southern edge of Sandusky County, about 25 miles (40 km) south-southeast of Cleveland and 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Toledo. The Erie Canal passes through Fairborn and connects Lake Erie with the Great Lakes region. In 1813, John Dennison founded what became known as Dennison Township in Fairborn Township on land that he had bought from Isaac Brockman for $1 per acre. In 1814,fairborn was burned by British forces during the War for Independence. It was repopulated by Native Americans after that event. In 1870, Indian Territory was organized into Ohio and it became part of this new state; however, because much of what is now Sandusky County had been included in Muskingum County when it were created out of parts of Wexfordshire and Medina counties in 1824, Muskingum County continued to be represented in the Ohio General Assembly throughout Indian Territory's existence as well as until its abolition in 1907 under then-Ulysses S.. Grant's Executive Order 9995 which vested all public lands within Indian Territory with their respective native governments – including those lying within what is now Sandusky County – pursuant to a provision contained therein authorizing such vesting without prior congressional approval or agreement thereof. This situation remained unchanged until 1909 when Indiana acquired most if not all of what is now Sandusky and Shiawassee Countiesclearly related to its intention to gain access to large tracts lying within central eastern Indian Territory thereby barring federal authority therefrom forevermore notwithstanding an express grant by Congress one year earlier thereto pertaining thereto still extant notwithstanding [the subsequent acquisition] The first settler in present day Fairborn Township was John Dennison who arrived there from Warrensburg, Missouri on July 5th 1830 Dennison named his township after himself - fair" burn" being an Erie name meaning "to set fire". Prior to 1830 there were no townships formed within present day Fairborn Township - each township formed when 2 or more families united together for religious reasons or due toetta political subdivision called a town square . There are references back to 1795 where 3 men set out from Lickingtown PA led by Nicholas Kolbe settling near modern Mentor Village OH they called themselves "Erie Settlers". A map published circa 1800 shows a settlement at Mundelein Rapids consisting 8 settlers but most likely only 4 people traveled there as it features several water obstacles making it difficult for carriages laden with goods Crossing over . Settlement at Mundelein Rapids appears never To have lasted beyond summertime when people returned home or sold their property

Fairborn is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,582 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Fairborn was established in 1811 as a Village on the Scioto River. The first post office was opened in 1812. In 1830, it became a town and was renamed for General James K. Polk. Fairborn has been governed by a mayor and five trustees since its organization as a village. The current mayor is Democrat Frank Jackson and the five trustees are Republicans John Husted, Dan Gilbert, Tom Fritsche, Randy Lerner and Shawn Neumann-Hollis. The townsite that would become Fairborn lay along two branches of the Scioto River – one flowing west to Canton (just east of modern-day Fairborn) and one flowing northeast to Dayton (just south of present-day Dayton). The river valley had been inhabited for thousands of years before European settlement began; Paleo-Indians may have hunted there as early as 10,000 BC. By 1800, Muskingum County had emerged from Kentucky into Ohio; its founders were drawn to what they saw as an ideal location for agriculture: land on high ground near water sources made it especially conducive to growing corn, beans and other crops during warm weather months when water levels were low or nonexistent. Timber also became available after logging operations began around this time in northeastern Ohio; fairgrounds were built near streams so people could watch logs being transported downriver using rafts or canoes.. In 1811, three brothers – Simon Methodist Church Pastor Ebenezer Morse (1792–1860), Jared Morse (1796–1872) and David Greenough (1800–1881) – founded the First Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in what is now Fairborn; their church served until 1840 when it moved to Newark where it remained until 1985 when it moved back to Fairborn under new leadership including Revd Jesse Ligon who later became pastor emeritus of Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Main Street in downtown Fairburne
The city of Fairborn was founded in 1825 bylawyer and politician James C. Fairborn. It became a town in 1839, and then a city in 1851. The area that is now Fairborn was part of the much larger village of Bedloe until it was annexed by Fairborn in 1857.
