The Fairborn Optical Merchants Association was founded in 1909. It served as the business arm of the local Chamber of Commerce and lobbied for better lighting, furniture, and other products. In 1951, the organization merged with the Ohio Optometric Society to form The Ohio Optometric Association. Over time, OOA became increasingly involved in industry policy, culminating in its merger with American Glass & Hardware in 1987. At that point, it was one of the largest optical businesses in America. Through its history and operations, The Ohio Optometric Association hasAdvocated for better lighting; furniture design; product safety; education; and innovation within the optometry industry. Today’s OOA oversees more than 1,000 employees across 12 offices across Ohio.

Fairborn is an unincorporated community in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. It lies east of the town of Fairborn on the border of Scioto and Trumbull counties. The population was 515 at the 2000 census. The community was named after George Washington Fair (1748-1824), a signer of the Declaration of Independence and first U.S. Minister to Spain. It began as a small hamlet near Fairborn Creek in 1811, when settlers from New York brought over two ponies and some hoes to start a farmstead. A post office called Fayetteville had been established in 1814, but it was discontinued in 1826 because its residents were too spread out for one place to serve everyone. The name Fairborn was selected by vote of the community's citizens in 1831, following their choice for an alternate name for nearby Pleasant Hill Township which they had also chosen as their new town site. In 1835, Wm Blythe opened a stagecoach stop at Fairborn Lake for passengers traveling between Athens and Dayton across Trumbull County; this stopped traffic on the highroad that linked Toledo with Cleveland. By 1840, there were six stores and five homes in Fairborn; three miles (5 km) away from where Wm Blythe started his business, several more stores had appeared along First Street since then – including J & H Gadsden’s Store (now part of Home Depot), located just west of present-day State Route 690/State Route 422 running through Fairborn village center; four other stores clustered around what are now Fourth Street south of Main Avenue: Green Acres store operated by John Ladd (now part of Lowe’s); Pritchard’s store ();and two blacksmith shops – Blacksmith Shop #1 operated by Solomon Davenport () until 1861 when it became Davenport Milling Company shop (). In 1840–41, local farmers began raising corn for export to Europe; this caused increased demand for hay and straw from local farms as well as other items needed to process corn into flour or feed animalsexport sales totaled about $2 per day during that period (). In 1842–43 Frankfort Mill built on what is now Fourth Street produced flour for market reasons only (), while Blacksmith Shop #2 continued operations (). In 1861–62 Solomon Davenport organized a milling company () that built new mills on Third Road northeast of town (), these mills processed flour into meal or bread products () until 1978 when they closed (); today there is only one remaining building from that time period still standing: Blacksmith Shop #1 still stands down Fourth Street southeast corner Main Avenue). In 1865 David Henderson bought 160 acres (65 ha) northwest of town near present-day State Route 322 where he founded Henderson Farmstead (); Henderson changed the name to Foreland Farms in 1889 (). He died there in 1930 (). Today Foreland Farms spans over 8 square miles () with more than 100 buildings dating back to 1865 . The community experienced heavy industry during World War II with many companies operating here such as US Steel (), Alcoa ()) and Bell Telephone (). Afterward major residential development took hold with many people moving into the area due to job opportunities available after World War II ended(). Many businesses closed down throughout the postwar years but have since reopened including Wm Blythe's Stagecoach Stop which remains open today serving locals and visitors alike
