Fairborn, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Fairborn County. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. The city is located in northeastern Ohio on the Scioto River, about 30 miles (48 km) south of Cincinnati and 40 miles (64 km) north of Cleveland. It was founded by General George Washington in 1788 as a trading post on the Scioto River. The original name for Fairborn was Greenfield Township, but it became part of Hamilton County in 1801 when that county was created from portions of Sandusky, Lucas, and Wyandotte counties. The first courthouse building in Fairborn was built in 1806. The present downtown area was developed between 1957 and 1959 when Interstate 75was constructed through town. The City Council consists of 9 members who are elected at-large with no limit on how many times they can serve; 2 members are appointed by the mayor with staggered terms; 1 member is chosen each year by lot from among all registered voters within their district to serve as Vice President pro tempore; 1 member is an appointee from Mayor Fischer's cabinet; and one member is chosen each year by lot from among all registered Voters within their district to serve as Manager for Community Development Services

Fairborn is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Fairborn was Ebenezer Harmon in 1788. Harmon and his family were farmers who grew corn, beans and other items for sale on their farmstead before moving to a larger plot in 1792. They increased production by growing tobacco which they exported to Europe. In 1812, Harmon sold his land to Joshua Gage and moved the family to what are now known as Winton Heights and Park Row neighborhoods of Fairborn Township. In 1814, when Ohio became a state, Fairborn was made a part of Hamilton County with its own government under the direction of Governor John Pemberton. A courthouse and jail were built here at this time; however these buildings only ever served as temporary housing until more permanent structures could be erected. The first permanent home in what would become Fairborn was built on Prospect Street in 1817 by captain John Greggs Jr., one of several pioneers who journeyed westward during the Honeymoon Period after achieving independence from Great Britain. This house still stands today as an example of Victorian architecture in central Ohio. In 1819-20 (the year following American independence), James Southerland bought 20 acres (8 hectares) near Greenlawn along Third Street for $1 million dollars CAD which he intending to use as farmland but never did so because he died suddenly two years later at age 52 while on vacation aboard USS Constitution off Cuba's coast - yet another sign that life wasn't always easy for those who migrated Westward during that period! A group of men led by George Stephenson purchased 60 acres (24 hectares) northeast of Greenlawn from James Southerland for $2 million dollars CAD less than two months after his death! This purchase marked the beginning of Cleveland's rapid growth due both to Stephenson's wealth derived from shipbuilding work he had done prior to becoming mayoralty candidate against incumbent Grover Cleveland and also because sectional tension within America began to increase following British efforts at expansion into new territory including present day Ohio! After years spent being developed piecemeal through individual purchases or construction projects rather than concerted effort like that put together by Stephenson & his team some businesses located downtown started opening up such as The Potteries (now Macy's) where soap products were manufactured; First National Bank where loans were originated & processed; plus much more! Downtown business districts gradually expanded eastward beyond 3rd Street/Greenlawn Avenue until almost all aspects ot non-residential buildings had been opened up within blocks or half blocks radius around either Third or 4th Streets between Euclid Avenue & I-675! This period saw heavy investment both financially & physically coming from Cleveland businessmen looking not just to expand their businesses but also find new areas where they could build factories and other industrial plants given prevailing transportation costs limitations back then (& even now)! One result was an increasing demand among manufacturers for workers right here in town - something that continued well into the 1920s when manufacturing declined overall due primarily to World War 1 & II intervened!! Today you can still see many remnants from this earlier period including: old brick buildings dating back to pre-war days along Third Street near Greenlawn Ave.; large factories overlooking downtownication directly south onto Iroquois Road; etc… It truly is an amazing time capsule if you ask me 🙂
