The earliest gun target in Fairborn was a small blacksmith shop on the corner of Main and State Streets. In 1821, the first rifle range opened in town and used targets made from ox-hide. The first handguns were also shot at this range. Eventually, the rifle range closed and the handguns were moved to other locations. In 1865, Fairborn became part of the United States and by then most people in town had either died in service or been born after America became an independent country. So there wasn't much interest in shooting targets anymore until around 1920 when somebody decided to start manufacturing them again for local shoots. Fairborn is a city in and the county seat of Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 69,191 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fairborn were French traders in 1792. They noted the rich coal deposits near the village and named it Beechcroft after one of their own captains who had explored these lands. In 1814, General James K. Polk's army passed through Lucas County on its way to battle at Fallen Timbers and called for an agricultural fair being held at Beechcroft just south of where it now stands. General David Dixon organized this event which became known as the "First Agricultural Exhibition in America." This event attracted many people from throughout Ohio and even France to attend with food booths, music, dances and general entertainment! In 1835, Jotham Halleck served as president of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia and decided to hold a meeting here too! He invitedFairborn residents to participate with ideas on how to improve life on earth including education and morality. The first Ann Arbor Meeting was also held here in 1835 under Halleck's presidency! In 1851, George Stephenson built his railroad line through Lucas County from Mansfield to Youngstown (now Cleveland). This made Fairborn become much more important as it became closer to major cities such as Cleveland and Akron. The city also experienced growth due to agriculture which continued until World War II when industry took over most of Fairborn's economy. After World War II ended there was significant Decline within Fairborn's population due mainlyto migration into surrounding townships and suburbs during the early 21st century caused by new employment opportunities in Greater Cleveland area

Fairborn is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first Fairborn settlement was on the Scioto River in 1814. The community was named for George Fair, an Englishman who had come to America in 1812 as a trader and interpreter with the Shawnee Indians. In 1827, General James K. Polk founded what is now Cleveland because he believed that it would become the new capital of America after Independence. fairborn grew rapidly due to its excellent location by the Scioto River and its close proximity to Cleveland. When Prohibition was repealed in 1920, business boomed in towns such as Akron and Toledo; however, Fairborn became one of the few towns statewide to have all its businesses closed during prohibition. In 1926, Fairborn's post office opened under ZIP code 43601 (now part of Columbus). In 1936-1937, amid local opposition to plans by Plain Dealer publisher Arthur Hays Wendt to build a new shopping center near downtown that would dwarf nearby homes and Business Park Boulevard (later Telluride Shopping Center), Fairborn voters passed a referendum authorizing Wendt to sell his property for $2 million cash instead of using it for development purposes which would have destroyed many homes and businesses in town center along with reducing access to public transportation; Wendt accepted this offer and built his planned shopping center on his land instead providing more than 1,000 jobs in its construction phase alone In 1984-1985 when Interstate 69 crossed through town Centre Street between I-670 eastbound lanes and I-675 westbound lanes creating an interchange called "The Gap" which created traffic congestion on Meridian Street Bridge across downtown between I-675 eastbound lanes and US 40 westbound lanes there were proposals from various developers including Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert that if I-69/I-675 were closed off completely then they could build a toll booth on top of Meridian Street Bridge but those plans never got past early planning stages before Gilbert purchased state control over I-69/I-675 Today much like it did when first established - small businesses thrive while larger stores are out competed or simply relocated within walking distance while central business district remains largely unchanged with only minor updates
In 1812, the town of Fairborn was founded by General George Washington and his army during the War of 1812. Its name comes from its location in what is now northwestern Ohio. The land that Fairborn lies on was first inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. In 1795, a group of settlers from Pennsylvania arrived in what is now northwest Ohio and began to build homes. In 1802, the town of Fairborn was incorporated as a village. The first post office opened in 1817. By 1830, there were over 150 residents living in Fairborn. The population grew rapidly during the 1830s because of new crop production and heavy industry development around Cleveland and Akron. With increased population growth came increased infrastructure needs such as schools, churches, hospitals, roads, water systems, and mills. Due to this rapid growth and development, businesses became more important than personal incomes for many people in early nineteenth century America.
