However, over time that has changed as various industries have come to take root in the community: manufacturing (most notably Winton Paper Products), retail services (including several stores operated by local banks), transportation (especially trucking jobs at local grain elevators), and professional services (such as engineering). Currently there are three main businesses operating within the town limits: FirstEnergyuterlimited Energy Company Inc., Allied Signal Corporation, and JCPenney Companies Inc.. The largest employer intown today is FirstEnergyuterlimited Energy Company Inc., which employs more than 500 people across five locations across central Ohio. Allied Signal Corporation occupies a large building on Main Street that dates back to 1928 and houses both electrical equipment dealerships plus other related businesses such as plumbing supply stores and locksmiths. JCPenney Companies Inc., headquartered off West White Avenue, provides much needed retail storefronts inside what was once an agricultural powerhouse with more than 20 clothing stores alone dating back to 1907 when it opened its doors as Jugular Clothing & Shoes!

Fairborn is a city in and the county seat of Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 71,813 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Lucas County after Grand Rapids. The site of present-day Fairborn was originally part of the Northwest Territory which was divided between Washington and Adams counties in 1800. It became a town in 1825, and a city on November 30, 1851. The first settler in what would become Fairborn was John Gist who arrived from Maryland on September 12, 1781 with his family. He built a cabin near what is now southwest corner of Meridian Street and West Main Street. Gist's son George erected a log cabin on what is now northeast corner of Northeast Avenue and Second Street about 1812 or 1813. This early settlement attracted other pioneers such as Edward Everett Hale who platted the townsite on February 11, 1827 and named it for himself (Everett). In 1830s Nathan Heller established an agricultural colony near Pike Road/Route 66 north of today's downtown Fairborn along the Illinois River where he raised corn, chickens, pigs, horses and cows. In 1840 he patented 8 acres (3 hectares) east of center square to build his tannery operations that continue to this day as Heller Tannenbaum & Co.. In 1850–1853 James Wickersham bought land adjacent to Heller's tannery property; this area now includes much of downtown Fairborn as well as parts of northwest Side streets bordering Chicago Heights neighborhood south side alley extending into Dearborn Heights neighborhood east side alley extending into Northgate Neighborhood Park across Cook Road from Brownstown Township line joining with Eatonville Township lines to form Northwestern Lucas County On November 30th 1851 City fathers voted by acclamation to become "A City within Its Limits" under Municipal law #2Chap10 thereof establishing boundaries defining limits:northwest corner NE AVE/Second St., southeast corner MERidian St./West Main St., central square Sq., west boundary CROSS RD./Pike Rd., east boundary CROSS RD./Dearborn Ave.. The first election held members were Mayor James Fenton (Old Lodge No 9), Treasurer John Kapp (New Lodge No 2), Clerk Cephus Goodrich (First Ward No 1), Aldermen David Bittner (Third Ward No 5), William Hickey (Fourth Ward No 4) and Nicholas Vroman (Fifth Ward Nos 3-5). Today’s downtownFairburn occupies much older historic buildings that date back to around 1800 when NW Corner NE AVE/Second St had two log cabins side by side with three others nearby including Dutch Reformed Church built 1800 also NW Corner meridian st./West Main st.- these were all owned by John Gist before he moved upriver so there may have been more settlers here then just those listed above
The town of Fairborn was founded in 1814 by Joshua Fairbank. The town grew rapidly and soon became a major center for agricultural production. In 1838, the first county seat of Columbiana County was moved from Fairborn to Canfield, Ohio. The towns of Fairborn and Canfield were merged into the new city of Cleveland in 1846.
