When the first Americans arrived in Fairborn, Ohio, they were greeted by a land of forests and rivers. The area that is now Fairborn was inhabited by the Shawnee and other tribes for over two hundred years before European settlers arrived. In 1795, James Caldwell settled in what is now Fairborn. He was the first white man to arrive in what is now Ohio. Caldwell built a cabin on the banks of the Muskingum River. This settlement became known as Caldwell’s Ferry Landing. The first guns to be used in America were made here in Fairborn. In 1795, Captain John Cook bought three cannons from Jean Baptiste Morel at Caldwell’s Ferry Landing. Cook used these cannons to fight against British forces during the French and Indian War (1775-1783). After defeating British forces at Fort Necessity on September 10, 1775, American General George Washington took command of America’s military forces and began his march eastward towards Philadelphia. On November 3, 1775, he reached Philadelphia and began his campaign against Britain. A few weeks later, on November 24th, General Washington moved his army upriver past Quebec City towards Crown Point on Lake Erie –the capital of Canada at this time–and finally reached Detroit on December 13th after a long journey across country. With British units surrounding him near Montreal and Toronto respectively, George Washington decided to withdraw from Canada rather than face an all out battle with them; instead he marched back home through Ontario into Pennsylvania Colony where he re-established himself as its first Governor-General

Fairborn is a small town in the northeast corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fairborn County. The first Europeans to explore and settle in what is now Fairborn were Frenchmen in 1701 and then British traders in 1703. The land that would become Fairborn was surveyed by George Washington in 1764 and named for General Richard Fairfield, who had served as an officer with Captain John Smith's Expedition to survey the eastern coast of North America (1724-27). In 1813, when Ohio became a state, Fairborn was reincorporated into Summit County. In 1814, James Kapp founded Kapp's Candy Company in what is now downtown Akron with stores at 2nd and High Streets. That same year, he donated land near his store on Third Street for a school which became First Christian Academy (now known as Akron University). The company grew rapidly and by 1829 had built four other factories along Third Street; two were destroyed by fire but business continued until 1840 when all production was moved to Akron’s new factory district on Mahoning Valley Road east of downtown. Kapp sold his interest in the company to Tryon & Copley in 1852 and it continued under their name until 1907 when it changed hands again - this time to Fiskars Corporation – before finally being purchased by Procter & Gamble Co., Incorporated on September 15th, 1969. At P&G's purchase there were over 1,500 employees employed at thirteen plants across five states including Akron; these plants produced products such as Tide laundry detergent, Charmin toilet paper and Pampers diapers. In November 1982 admission into nearby Delaware State University allowed students fromFairbrorngto study agricultural science together with students from Columbiana County adjacent to Findlay while also providing some economic opportunities for residents of both towns during this period of transition.. On July 6th 1916 Native Americans began raiding farms west of Dayton along the Scioto River where they hunted deer, turkeys and other game animals that supported their way of life
