That year, a group of individuals led by Clarence Kapp developed and patented an airgun that used compressed gas to shoot pellets. The first firearms made use of this type of ammunition. In 1906, Fairborn's only gunsmith, John Ritchie, manufactured the first air rifle using this type of ammunition. In 1916, Clarence Kapp transferred ownership of his patent-pending airgun to George Wickersham. This gave Wickersham the rights to produce and sell firearms using compressed gas cartridges. He also created the world's first air rifle utilizing this type of ammunition. From 1916 until his death in 1951, George Wickersham was responsible for developing and manufacturing Air rifles in Fairborn.

The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Fairborn were French traders and furriers who established a trading post on the Scioto River in 1795. The town was platted in 1802, and named after John Fairbanks, an American Revolutionary War hero. In 1810, the town gained a charter from Ohio General James Wilkinson as a village. In 1824, Fairborn became part of the new state of Ohio when it was created from parts of Indiana and Illinois. It remained an unincorporated community until its annexation by Cincinnati in 1906. In 1916, Fairborn College opened its doors to students from all over Ohio while still located inside the village limits ofFairborn. Today, Fairborn College operates as an independent school with undergraduate and graduate programs that offer a curriculum emphasizing hands-on learning opportunities for students across many different sectors of industry and commerce including business administration and marketing; information systems; engineering; health care management; law; health science/medical technology/science; education leadership & professional development; social work & human service administration In 1909–10 the city of Cincinnati built two large water towers which served as commercial areas for local farmers while also providing drinking water to surrounding neighborhoods via tire ruts dug into the earth beneath their feet during those days before pipelines reached every house

Fairborn is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-KY–IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Fairborn" was first given to the community by John Fairbank in 1811 as part of a survey for land purchases. The village of Fairborn was organized in 1824 and named after Fairbanks. In 1827, it merged with adjoining Newtown Township to form what is now Muskingum County. Prior to the merger, Newtown Township included much of present-day Fairborn and portions of Dayton and Middletown. The town site was laid out on March 12, 1800 by Nicholas Houghton (1768-1848), one of the original owners of what is now Muskingum County. He Purchased 3/8 mile square at the mouth of Scioto River from James Caldwell (1747-1814). In 1801 Houghton constructed a small log cabin here which he called "Hancock's Cabin." One year later he built another small cabin known as "Farnsworth's Cottage." In 1807 Nicholas Houghton married Jane Peake (1772-1857). She was born into an affluent family that had originated in Manchester, England; her parents were George Peake and his wife Martha (née Cartwright). Jane and Nicholas had three children:Nicholas Houghton Jr., Alfred Peake (1808-1892), and Harriet Ann Peake Morgan (1810-1922). Apostle John Whetstone erected a large brick church on Main Street in Fairborn on November 10th, 1830 serving both MUSKIC COUNTY AND TWILIGHT COUNTY IN GENERAL ABOVE THE VALLEY OF CLEVELAND . Reverend Jno Whetstone baptized over 100 people including General David Campbell who became US Vice Presidential candidate on November 5th 1830 & received anacreage for his farm at Xenia near Grand Rapids Michigan during this time period
