Englewood is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located just east of Dayton and south of Cincinnati. The population was 38,815 at the 2010 census, making it the 8th largest city in Ohio and the 19th largest city in the United States. The land that now makes up Englewood was first settled by Native Americans in 1792 when Shawnee Chief Miami attacked an English post on Long Island Sound. The area was part of Northwest Territory until 1795, when it became part of Virginia Territory under George Washington as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. It became a town on December 1, 1800, after being named for David Englewood (1754-1831), one of James K. Polk's two commissioners to settle Indian Claims Commission claims against Great Britain. The townsite around present-day Englewood was laid out by Captain John Stroud in 1802 as part of Alder Township; he named it after himself and his friend Benjamin Franklin Stroud (1751-1827). In 1812, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Greencastle to this site during his Tour de Force military campaign across Ohio and Kentucky. He called it "Jacksonville" because he believed that this location would be more favourable for siege operations due to its natural obstacles: a deep ravine running southward from Ridge Road into Beaver Creek which served as Wallace’s Gap; and rolling hills immediately east and northeast thereof which formed a natural defensive barrier against cavalry charges from either side." In 1814, local resident Nicholas Woodward donated 300 acres (12 km2) to be used for industrial development near what is now I-75/I-475; this area became known as Woodward Park today. By 1830, Englewood had about 100 families who raised chickens or pigs on their homes' yards or streetsides; these activities were continued through most of the 19th century becauseenglewood lacked public transportation and connections with other cities nearby except for Dayton which offered ferry services over Lake Erie to reach them. On February 11, 1835 – three days before Akron's incorporation – residents petitioned then Mayor William Holmes Taft to incorporate their town along with neighboring Xenia intoAkron so that their combined population could participate in municipal affairs more effectively.. On March 3rd Genoa Crouse officiated at incorporation ceremonies attended by Taft himself presided over by Clerk Amos Kendall Jr., one day after Taft acquired title deeds from each township's founders including President James Kappenberger who also subscribed $1 per acre ($36 total) towards expenses associated with organization! At first glance this might seem like something outofthe ordinary but such events were not unprecedented back then... With only 10 members Borough Council met twice monthly agendas were prepared showing all positions needed filled with 5 men plus 4 Women voting without paying anything office space cost $3/month mayoral salary was $25 annually fees charged assessed ½¢ per pound weight tax rate increased 2 cents/bag check writing fee increased 6 pence ($0.50) per bag checked made possible thru joint committee efforts between merchants “ Carteret & associates Merchants Merchants Association”

Englewood, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan area. The first Englewood settlers were led by Captain Jonathan Dayton and his wife Deborah in 1795. They founded a small settlement on the east side of what is now Englewood Heights after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) of land from the Canandaigua River Indian tribe. The family name originated with Colonel George Washington's ancestor, Adam Dayhoff, who moved from Germany to America in 1796 and became one of the original proprietors of Fairfax County in Virginia. In 1812 John Dayhoff married Eleanor Hanks[1]. In 1814 Constable Daniel Manning purchased 640 acres (2 km²) east of present-day Englewood from the Indians for $20 per acre. He named it Manning Township after himself and laid out a road through his property which eventually became known as State Route 441 or "the four-lane highway." On July 1, 1825 – just three years before Ohio statehood – Manning donated 60 more acres (24 ha) to form what would become Englewood Township again when it was organized as an independent township on November 3 that year. By 1830 there were over 200 residents living inEnglewood Township.[2] The community had its first schoolhouse built in 1828; however, it burned down in1829 and never reopened. A new school house was built soon thereafter and served until 1840 when it also burned down. The first post office opened on December 12th 1830. At that time there were only five families residing withinEnglewood Township: Captains Dayton and Hanks' families (3 children), Manning's family (4 children), John Dayhoff's family (4 adults), merchant James Cook's family (5 adults), and several Indians who resided around Newark where they hunted deer or fished during their annual summer encampment nearby.[2] A gristmill was built about two miles west of present-day Englewood on the remains of an old stagecoach stop located near current day West Bloomfield Road just south of Interstate 670/Upper Arlington Road intersection while groceries were being transported between Akron and Canton days before railroad service arrived hereabouts in 1857; however this mill closed operations by 1907 due to lack of demand for flour hereabouts[3]. Tenements began springing up all throughout town beginning with Mrs Flanders' structure erected about 1830 which still stands today next door to her grocery store at left front corner off Harrison Street across from Masonic Lodge #4407
