Englewood is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,812 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the eastern edge of the Cleveland metropolitan area and is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. It is part of the Akron–Muncy Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Englewood settlers arrived from Connecticut in 1795. The town was named for John Engle, an American Revolutionary War officer who served as lieutenant colonel and captain of artillery in the Continental Army. In 1814, two years after Ohio achieved statehood, Englewood became a town in Stark County under the new state organization. In 1825, lumber merchants built a sawmill on Willoughby Creek near what is now Mount Auburn Cemetery to supply mills in neighboring towns with lumber needed for buildouts around Cleveland. By 1830, about 30% of all oak trees grown in Ohio were used for furniture and other objects made out of oak; Englewood supplying almost half that amount. By 1840, when established cotton plantations had replaced forests as ENGLEWOOD's primary crop source (already dominant due to good yields from fertile loam soils), more than 90% of its output came from commerce and industry rather than agriculture or woodworking; one-seventh of total GDP nationally during that time period came from industrial production within five miles (8 km) of ENGLEWOOD's limits alone! When Union soldiers burned down mill buildings during Canandaigua Campaign on September 11th 1863 while trying to capture Fort Erie outside present day Euclid Heights neighborhood they destroyed nearly every building within five blocks including homes and businesses – what could have been a very costly mistake if caught resulted instead in high morale boosting success for our troops! After Union victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox Court House less than two years later (March 1865) few people returned home because Reconstruction followed which mean black Americans got their own respective voting rights and Engelwood lost its importance as an agricultural center although most residents did return by 1870s when manufacturing resumed following end of Civil War! A post office opened at ENGLEWOOD on October 8th 1867; it moved to its current location three years later on December 12th 1870 after being closed at Euclid Heights between 1869-1871 due to fire damage caused by railroads along Pettit Street bridge incident! In 1890 Census there were only 9 families living here so business rates increased significantly during this time but declined relatively slowly until WWI brought rapid growth back with many new immigrants arriving thanks also to major machine tool manufacturer General Electric moving into town just before Pearl Harbor which led directly to military/industrial expansion throughout Greater Cleveland! During WWII munitions plants were developed here but lack of available raw materials caused factories closure while Dayton continued growing leading eventually to Hammond’s industries taking over where ENGLEWOOD left off post war . Today most residents are engaged either locally or nationally with many businesses active here both smallscale and large scale giving much hope for future growth potential especially given recent expansions planned by local government including new library/museum complex as well as plans for massive housing development adjacent thereto!!!!

Englewood is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that would become Englewood was first settled by Native Americans in 1788. The Town of Delaware was organized in 1814 and named for General George Washington's home state of Delaware. The name change to Englewood on July 1, 1824 when the town became part of the newly formed Stark County. In 1830, an act passed by the Ohio General Assembly designated all of Stark and Summit Counties as part of what would become Youngstown Township; however, only Englewood residents voted to join Youngstown Township. In 1833, another act passed by the Ohio General Assembly designated Englewood as a village and changed its name to Englewood Village after Reverend Amos Prentice who arrived from Great Britain with his family in 1831. The first school in Englewood was built on Elm Street in 1836-37 by teachers Alexander Fenton and Amos Prentice. In 1840-41, it was moved to Clay Road where it remains today as Thayer Elementary School. In 1850-51, school moved again when a new building erected on State Route 12 near present day New Market Middle School served as both schools until 1865 when they merged into one school structure which still exists today - First Baptist Church (now known as Bethel Baptist Church). On December 20th 1861, due to increased population growth within Stark County caused by new transportation options such as railroads coming through town (the first railroad reached Cleveland proper in1862), Mayor James O'Neill called a special meeting of the Municipal Court to adopt ordinances regulating streetcar service within town limits; these ordinances were later repealed but remain example law still followed today albeit modified slightly from their original form because of technological advances over time On January 25th 1870 OSI received township notice from Secretary Of State Daniel Webster that their grant for $5000 had been revoked effective February 15th 1870 because payments had not been made As required under GISTO rules at that time township meetings were held quarterly instead of annually like then Constitution mandated In 1870 during Reconstruction Union soldiers burned down buildings including homes and churches throughout central Stark county while trying to stop white supremacy so African American citizens could have access to education and vote although this event is generally considered apocryphal some evidence suggests this actually did happen englewoods history books say there may be some truth behind story
