The Model 401A1 was adopted as the official airgun of the englewood rifle club. The englewood rifle club also began using this airgun in competition tournaments across America. The Model 401A1 proved its worth as an accurate tool when it was used against target animals such as deer, turkey, pigeon, and dog.

During World War II many factories were built here including Ford Motor Company's Willow Run Arsenal which produced tanks and other military equipment; United States Steel's Mill Creek Works which produced munitions such as artillery shells; Pabst Brewing Company's Toledo Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co.; GM Corporation's Buick factory; First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) Building #2; Sears Roebuck & Company's headquarters building (now One Financial Plaza); John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum (former Shea Stadium); Stroud Paper Products plant #1; Goodyear Tire Manufacturing Plant #3-4-5-6 (now Michelin tires); Empire State Development Corporation's Park Avenue Tower complex (now Spectrum Center). Most recently notable buildings include The Harris School building designed by Iveco Consultants Inc., home to Warrensville Heights Charter High School since 2001; One Financial Plaza being developed by HSBC Holdings Plc.; former Sears Roebuck & Co.'s headquarters building being converted into office space for JP Morgan Chase LLC; and Well Fargo Building #2 being used as a football training facility for both Manchester United FC and Derry City FC
Englewood was founded in 1824 by the Reverend John Engle. The small town was named for Englewood Chapel, which was built in 1796. It grew rapidly during the early days of Ohio's statehood and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1833, Englewood became the first city in Ohio to be established and its first mayor was George Biddle. The city annexed neighboring towns in 1865 and 1870, making it one of the largest cities in Ohio. In 1902, Englewood lost its charter as a city but continues to exist as a village.
