The Elyria Ammunition Company was established in 1892. It became a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1899. In 1912, the company merged with Stroud Cartridge Company to become the Stroud-Elyria Cartridge and Machine Works. The name changed again to Elyria Ammunition Corporation in 1978.
Elyria is a city in the southeastern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 27,599 at the 2010 census. The Elyria-Muncie metropolitan area had a population of 41,521 as of July 1, 2018. Elyria is one of nine cities and towns in Lucas County. It is one of the six counties in Ohio that are part of the Greater Cleveland Area. The city was founded by British settlers on November 3, 1814 as "Elyria Township". On December 11, 1815, it became a separate town when it consolidated with other portions of Scioto Township to form the new village of Elyria. The first post office was established in Elyria on October 14, 1817. Elyria's growth paralleled that of neighboring Scioto Township which had also grown rapidly during this time frame. In 1830, both villages merged into one incorporation and were named "Elyria-Muncie". As Elyria grew more prosperous and began to attract businesses and residents from surrounding villages such as Uniontown and Defiance Heights, its corporate name changed again to "Lucas County" on January 1st 1907 pursuant to an act passed by the Ohio General Assembly (H J No 4346). In 1959 Elyria annexed parts of Defiance Heights which formed what is now known as Defiance–Elyia Community College District #2A. On November 3rd 1990 City Council approved annexation by Canton due to concerns over water availability within limits set forth in an agreement between Canton Water Authority and City fathers; however annexation did not take effect until March 1991 when voters adopted a resolution supporting annexation via referendum ballot measure (Voters’ choice only). That same year saw construction begin on what would eventually become downtown business district with groundbreaking taking place on May 5th 1991 by Mayor Tom Bunch & Commissioners Rick Fowler & Bob Kappenstein under direction from then Mayor John Chitwood On September 15th 2000 City Council voted 7-0 approving annexation by South Euclid which would form part of what is now known as Downtown Elyria Business Improvement District #2A On October 2nd 2001 Downtown Elyrian celebrated its 10th anniversary with several events including ribbon cutting for main Street Extension project which provides access to Park Avenue for pedestrians and cyclists located near EOK Arena

Elyria is a town in Defiance County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,526 at the 2010 census. Elyria is part of the Toledo metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1821 by George Washington Hinton and his wife Jane as a post office on the Scioto River. It was named for the English city of Elyria which had been burned by General George Washington during the American Revolution. Elyria first became a village in 1838, when it merged with two other villages to form what is now Defiance Township. In 1868, Elyria incorporated as a town under the name of "George Washington Hinton". The original core of what would become Elyria included only 4 blocks of downtown that still stand today; these were occupied by factories until after World War II when they were redeveloped into housing developments and stores. The community experienced growth spurts during World War II due to munitions production nearby at Pohlman-Luther Industries and Other Munitions Manufacturing Company (OLI). Afterward, however, economic decline characterized much of Elyria's character until the late 1990s when small businesses began to reopen and new residents began moving into the community from surrounding townships and villages. Today, Elyira remains an economically strong town with several high-quality businesses including insurance companies and healthcare providers – all situated within its historic core districts near downtown
