Eastlake is a city in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The population was 19,772 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1836 by John Eastlake and others as the village of Westville. It became a town in 1851. In 1903, it became an independent city and remains one today. The area now called Eastlake was first settled by the Lenape Indians in the 17th century. They were forced from their home in present-day Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War (1756-63). They moved north to what is now eastern Cleveland County in 1697 after being expelled from North America by Great Britain for helping to side with France against England. The area that would eventually become Eastlake was part of this new county until it was split off fromcleveland County on July 1, 1836 when President James K. Polk created Cuyahoga County based on land grants given to him by General George Rogers Clark during his Expedition into central Ohio during the American Civil War (1812-15). In 1851, voters passed a resolution recognizing that Westville had outgrown its usefulness as a village and proposed that it be merged into the larger town of Eastlake. This proposal passed 3–0 with only one dissenting vote; David Sibley, who cited concerns about how much traffic would be added to an already congested township square which he said could not support such growth without creating further congestion elsewhere within Eastlake itself. On November 2, 1851, Mayor Sidney Smith donated land east of Prospect Avenue on Superior Street near Euclid Avenue for use as a public square where people could gather for picnics and other events; this site became known as "East Lansing Square". That same year also saw the incorporation of two other villages: Belmont Heights to the north and Mayfield Heights to the south (later renamed Mayfield Hills). On February 8, 1902 – just over two years after becoming an independent city – Eastlake voted to annex Warren Township – located just west of downtown – making it one of its six wards (the others being Albion Heights/Belmont Heights/Mayfield Hills/Richmond/University Park) within City Hall proper rather than remaining each own ward like previous years when wards were established primarily through popular vote rather than property donation or election considerations。 After annexation several businesses closed because they did not have space inside City Hall due to all the people living there; these included Vandemare Traders’ Store & Publick House which operated from 1886 until 1901 when it burned down; Big Four Tobacco Company which opened up shop here in 1907;[6] Bingo House & Casino which opened up shop here later that year,[7] as well as many small businesses including grocery stores etcetera which continued operating even after annexation but did so outside of City Hall precincts jurisdiction since it wasn't subject to taxes then or still is today (). Eastlake is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Eastlake was John Adams who arrived on July 10, 1796. He and his family built a log cabin on the Scioto River. In 1812, George Washington Carr had purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land from Nicholas Rogers and began to build a home there. Carr died before he could complete his house but his wife continued to live there until her death in 1836. In 1819, John Sibley erected a two-story frame schoolhouse near the present site of Eastlake Township Hall for students in the area around Scioto Falls west of Akron. This school was replaced by Harrison High School in 1923 when it opened and served as the township's only high school until 1961 when Eastlake Township established its own high school system with Southfield High School serving as its flagship institution. In 1837, James Hocking founded a gristmill here which became one of eastern Ohio's largest producers of flour and other grains until it closed in 1928. The mill still stands today next to Interstate 681 south of Eastlake village limits along with several other small shops including an ice cream parlor that operated from 1951-1963 under the name "Sandy", Two Amish barns which were used as storage then turned into apartments after being sold to developers in 1978; One building remains standing within city limits: One blocks east off I-681 between Villa Park Rd./State Rte 21c/Eastlane Ave., known locally as "HIBB". In 1957 GARVEY THE GEODETICIAN moved from downtown Cleveland to open their new office here – this marked an important move for GARVEY THE ENGINEER because it meant thatENGINEERING could be done more safely than ever before on public property! NEIL CURRY was Manager here from 1967-1978; during this time period HIBB attained National Historic Landmark status! In 1978 OSWALD WILSON bought out Harold Ewing's interest allowing him finally to retire – he had been working at CITY OF EASTLAKE history museum since 1950! Mr. Wilson renamedCity Museum after himself! From 1978-1984 ROBERT KRAMM ledthe museum while STEVE LEE took over operationin 1984 until 1990 when LISA COOPER became Manager againuntil 2003 when she left to become Deputy Superintendent at VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY PRESS IN OHIO! Since 2003 MARY ANN HUMPHREYS has beenmanagerial officer with responsibilityfor all aspectsof museums programs!! A variety of events have taken place within the boundaries of Eastlake since its incorporation into township government such as block parties held on summer nights or special holiday celebrations such as Fourth Of July balls or Harvest Moon gatherings where friends would go outside for refreshments during dinnertime instead of going inside like they did back then! There have even been occasional real estate ventures related to land east of I-681 although none have amounted to anything more than buying some extra acreage so people can continue living close by without having any say in how their community develops! Nevertheless, these types of activities keep things moving and provide some level stability within what can be a rapidly changing community environment!
Eastlake is a city in and the county seat of Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 31,562 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton metropolitan area. The area now known as Eastlake was first inhabited by the Seneca people. The first European to visit the area was John Clemens in 1795. In 1802, landowner Nicholas Hennepin sold 640 acres (250 ha) of east central Mahoning County to George Rogers Clark for $10 per acre ($270 per km²). In 1803, Clark built a cabin on what is now west side of downtown Eastlake and named it "Clark's Cabin". In 1830, Indiana Territory opened up and began selling land in western Mahoning County to settlers. By 1836, about 60% of all land in west Mahoning County had been bought and sold by settlers. In 1840, when Ohio became a state, the sections that formed eastcentral Mahoning County were included withinMahoning County. The city of Eastlake was founded on May 25th of that year by James Ewing from Warren Township with 10 lots valued at $2 each- this set the foundation for what would become a thriving small town with rich history and culture; today’s east central business district is made up largely of buildings dating back to this early days including many pre-war businesses like JCPenney and Sears Roebuck & Company which both moved into their current locations after World War II. On October 16th 1861 while fighting against Confederate forces near Canfield heiress Virgina McCorkle donated her home located off Centre Street between Third and Fourth Avenues to be used as an hospital during the American Civil War 1861-1865; today it still houses part of National Military Medical Center Akron although most services have relocated elsewhere since then such as outpatient surgery residency programs for surgeons located on First Avenue North just north of Euclid Street where major hospitals are situated these days include Case Western Reserve University School Of Medicine which opened its doors in 1964 adjacent to Lake Erieview Hospital also known as Richland Hills Memorial Hospital until its closure in 1992 following pressure from nearby suburb Robeswood; finally over time various other medical facilities were added or removed making it one large hospital complex much like Cleveland Clinic Tower or Cleveland State University Tower today!
