In 1830, prosperous farmer David Siegel built Siegel House on parts of land that he had acquired from Solomon Northup in 1819 and renamed it Eastlake after his home state – Illinois – where he had been born two years earlier. On December 12, 1830 he married Johanna Holmqvist (1808–1875), daughter of Swedish immigrant Anders Holmqvist (1777–1851) and American woman Anna Maria Wright (1781–1860). They settled there until their deaths in 1865 and 1870 respectively; their house still stands today across Elm Street from Richardsonsville Presbyterian Church. In 1850s many citizens transferred out to Villa Park due to overcrowding at East High School and changes around town brought about by railroad construction nearby. A group led by school trustee Edward Bancroft purchased 1/1 mile (1 km) east of Main Street between Highland Avenue and Vine Street for $2 per acre (0·50 ha) in October 1861; this tract became known as "Bancroft Park". The City Council voted unanimously on November 10, 1861 to change its name back toEastlake so that all residents could take advantage of it being an official name rather than just an unofficial one among friends or family members who happened to live near the city limits. During World War II much development took place within Bancroft Park boundaries with factories opening up along Vine Street and Highland Avenue while other areas like Fairview Heights were annexed into West Side when that neighborhood developed during those years more rapidly thanEastlake did

Eastlake is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It was founded by General David Holmes and named for his estates on the east side of town. Eastlake was chartered as a village in 1892. The city was incorporated in 1902. In 1925, Eastlake became part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and it has since grown to include much of northwestern Cleveland as well as parts of Akron and Canton.
