Eastlake is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1868 by George Eastlake and his brother James Eastlake. It was named for George's older brother, who had died in 1851 while serving as a lieutenant colonel in the Union army during the American Civil War. The first post office in Eastlake was established on November 10, 1868, and opened with five mailbags. The first store in town was built on Main Street in 1870. In that year, a water mill began operations and soon became one of the largest employers in town. A streetcar line arrived from Cleveland to Eastlake in 1886 and quickly became one of the most popular transportation options for residents and tourists alike. In 1902, voters passed a referendum to create a school board; this decision led to the construction of East Lake High School on Maple Avenue south of town near where it currently stands. The school district would eventually be annexed by neighboring Summit County in 1936; however, Eastlake still retains its own school board system today (along with another high school). Many major businesses have been located or remain headquartered here over the years: Widespread Automotive Inc., Geico Insurance Company (later Geico Arena), Rubbermaid (now Lululemon Athletica), FirstEnergy Corporation (later EPRI), Samaritan Hospitality Group LLC., Tiffin Steel & Manufacturing Co., JBL Audio/Video Inc., Allstate Financial Services LLC., and several other large companies along with numerous small businesses throughout its history including two independent grocery stores which closed within months of each other around 2000 - 2002 due to an economic recession caused by global warming concerns among other things!

Eastlake, Ohio is a small town located in the northwestern part of Ohio. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. In 1868, the Eastlake post office was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1923. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all of it land. Eastlake was platted in 1811 by John Eliot and James De Witt from their home on the east side of present-day East Lake along what is now US Route 23. The first settler in what is now Eastlake Township was Michael Brown, who arrived there about 1824 with his family from Connecticut. He built a log cabin on what is now Bennett Road and named it Brownstown after himself and his family’s home state. When he died in 1827, his wife married Andrew Kirkland and they continued to live there until she died in 1851; then their son Peter moved into their house until he sold it to several people including George Haggerty around 1850 before moving away altogether and starting anew at an unknown location near modern day Springboro. In 1870, when Uniontown Township formed from parts of Franklin County, Eastlake became one of its villages within that new township. It remained so until 1923 when it ceased to exist as an incorporated community due to changes occurring within Uniontown Township itself during that time period – most notably the merger of neighboring townships into larger entities known as “cities” or “political districts” which were intended to improve transportation and political coordination within those areas respectively (i.e., create more centralized government). As a result of this change, Eastlake had no representatives on either Uniontown Township's or Franklin County's governing bodies for nearly fifty years – a situation which likely contributed significantly to its declining population over that time frame (the median household income also decreased rapidly between 1920 and 1930). However, following the village's reestablishment as an incorporated community under license by Stark County authorities circa 1965-1966,[1] its population began stabilize again[2][3][4] reaching approximately 10 residents by 2000.[5] Recently however,[6][7] Eastlake's demographics have shifted once again towards older age groups with no sign yet indicating any reverse trend; nonetheless its economic fortunes remain lackluster relative to other nearby communities despite having some excellent public schools[8][9]. A number of factors contribute largelyto these trends: 1) lack thereof significant investment/development outside of surrounding municipalities since such development would presumably ImproveEast Lake's economy & qualityof life; 2) restrictive zoning laws which limit potential uses & developments adjacent thereto; 3) low average paying jobs available per capita compared unfortunatleyto other nearby municipalities [10]; 4) relatively large percentageof residents born outside OFHSA providinglimited opportunities for self employmentoutsideof Main Street [11]; 5) high cost associated with living closeto major cities (& OH); 6)[7],[8],[9],[10], 7)[10], 8)[9], 9)[8]

The first permanent settler in what is now Eastlake was Michael Krieger in 1792. Krieger and his family were the only ones to live there for more than two decades before being forced out by Native Americans who had taken over their territory. A post office called Eastlake was established in 1814, and remained active until it was discontinued in 1868. In 1828, George Stephenson founded the Erie Canal Company and began construction of the canal from Buffalo to Cleveland. The canal brought jobs and development to Eastlake, which became known as "the canalside community." In 1835, the local school district was formed. In 1859, US Representative David Wilkins requested that President James Buchanan send troops to protect freight trains traveling on the Erie Canal from possible attack by Native Americans during a period of tension between America's two nations. About 60 people responded toWilkins' call for assistance; most of these men were militia members or farmers who had been recruited through a promotional campaign that started six months earlier by then-Governor John Adams. The volunteers arrived on October 24 and fought three days against an Indian force totaling about 100 warriors; however, no casualties occurred among either side. The Battle of Sandusky took place four days later when an even larger group of Indians attacked a small wagon train travelling downriver from Cleveland headed for Detroit; although several hundred white soldiers participated in this battle (including one officer with artillery), none were killed or wounded as a result of Indian aggression. This success indicates that American forces could quickly prevail against native raiders if they chose to do so – something that would not be possible if military action had to be used against indigenous peoples regularly throughout North America due to treaties or other agreements concluded between European governments and Native nations
