The first permanent settler in what is now Eastlake was John Coffin in 1813. In 1830, David Prentice bought section 5 of the township from John Coffin for $14 per acre. David Prentice devoted himself to farming and built a log cabin on his farmstead which he called "Prentice's Cabin." In 1850, he sold his land to Isaac Morse for $27 per acre. This initial purchase set the pattern that would continue through out the century with successive families purchasing land until it came into private hands in 1912 when it was purchased by Edwin Laddick for $6,000$. At this time, Eastlake had six churches- threeMethodist and three Catholic- one schoolhouse (1852), four residences (1857), two mills (1860 & 1862) and an sawmill (1864). The railroad arrived in 1865 when the Cleveland and Erie Railroad donated its right-of-way to make way for it. In 1870, Laddick subdivided his holdings into lots size 60x40 feet which yielded over $3 million dollars today’s value ($ as of 2019). He began construction on what would become known as “Laddick’s Hill” where he developed 350 acres including a small dammed stream which provided water power for his mills; also located were two gristmills and four barns/Workshops/Shops/Grafitti Studio buildings used by many local businesses including Wagon Wheel Bake Shop & News stand; Today these buildings are preserved as part of “Morse Park” Historical District Museum inside former Laddick Mill property . Many people who lived during this time still reside within easy walking distance today such as Marvin Minsky who grew up across from Laddick's Mill; Milton Hershey who raised chickens on his farm next door to milk cows while also making chocolates; Eddie Cantor who entertained at local dances around town.. These people all have their stories about their experiences living close by or working directly with Mr. Laddick throughout those years! All together they form one pretty amazing community history! In 1916 Edwin Laddick passed away leaving behind a grand total of sixteen properties totaling over 1 million acres that are still divided among numerous descendants today!

The first permanent settler in what would become Eastlake was Joshua White on March 10, 1781 when he platted out a town called "Emmetsburg." On July 1, 1802, Eastlake incorporated as a village under the name "Belmont". On November 3, 1825, Belmont became an unincorporated community within Erie County following its purchase by John Cushman from George Stephenson for $5,000. On October 20, 1850, the town of Eastlake merged with neighboring towns of Amherst and Mayfield to form what would be known as "East Lake Township". With Engine House No. 5 now standing as a museum and reminder of this merger., East Lake Township saw many growth opportunities during its early years including construction of a water supply system that allowed for irrigation agriculture beyond just small gardens orchards; addition of streets (northwest corner Jeffrey Road & east side Euclid Avenue); and even annexation by other townships which followed such as Mayfield on December 15th 1865 (becoming part of Arlington Heights). However much progress had been made until 1876 when an accidental fire destroyed homes along Euclid Avenue killed seven people including five family members who were staying at their home while their parents took another trip to work that day; devastating these communities forevermore known collectively as "The Five Fires" incident during which time East Lakes’ citizens responded with tearful demonstrations outside City Hall before returning home to rebuild their lives all over again - something they continue to do today through various organizations like The 5 Fires Museum

Eastlake was founded in 1814 as a small settlement on the east bank of the Great Miami River, south of present-day Cleveland. The city was named for John Richardson Eastlake, one of its first residents. The downtown district has been designated a national historic district since 1978 and includes many buildings from early American history including the Richardson House and Federalist Club. In 2000, Eastlake became home to Cleveland's first municipally owned public library system which continues to serve the community today. Eastlake is located on both banks of the Great Miami River, just north of downtown Cleveland and south of Mount Carmel Cemetery. It is bordered by Euclid Avenue to the north, State Route 24 to the east, Richfield Road to the south, and Lyndhurst Drive to the west. The river forms much of its eastern border; Interstate 79 borders it immediately to its south while Canton Road separates it from Greenville Township and South Euclid Heights
