East Liverpool, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 41,814 at the 2010 census and is located on the eastern edge of Cleveland metropolitan area. It is part of the Greater Cleveland region. The history of East Liverpool goes back to 1821 when it was part of the village of Ashtabula. In 1824, Ashtabula and nine other villages were merged into the new town of East Liverpool. The first mayor was John Hendershot and the first clerk was James Auldridge. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 had a population of 1,500 residents. In 1836, East Liverpool became an incorporated village with a population of 3,000 residents. During World War II, East Liverpool played an important role as one of four military bases in what is now Cleveland-Port Arthur County used by United States Army troops during that war. It also served as headquarters for Marine Corps Air Station Reserve Fleet Center from 1941 to 1945. In 1957, when Cleveland metropolitan area became self-governing under control of its own government, East Liverpool gained city status and began to develop its economy along with neighboring communities such as Mayfield Heights and Mentor Hills which had become suburbs since their incorporation into cities decades earlier during times where annexation wasn't possible or desirable due to land values or lack thereof within their respective municipalities boundaries (Mayfield Heights annexed in 1956 while Mentor Hills did so in 1968). By 1990s these two neighborhoods had reached populations over 100K each making them core areas for both precincts within City Limits development plans but much less developed than either neighborhoods’ predecessor cores due largely to lack #1 access transportation infrastructure (I-271) being built through major expressways only gradually open since 1960s including I-480/Mio Road later becoming I-71), limits on housing developments allowed through zoning changes & land acquisition via eminent domain throughout City Limits formative years; School District boundary changes resulting in acreage increases westward thru downtown eastward thru portions now known as Mayfield Heights & Mentor Hills resulted primarily from increased real estate prices relative to other parts of City Limits post annexation growth trends ([1990]2001 Census tracts included 8 out 10 blocks inside Downtown Core [Ed.])) In November 2004 US Congressman Dennis Kucinich announced his candidacy for President against George W Bush based upon his belief that money should not be central to American capitalism - particularly given increasing global competition - he called for more jobs not less spending leading him eventually onto becoming onehalfway point between Barack Obama & John McCain in 2008 Presidential Election race before endorsing Obama after his victory

East Liverpool's nickname "the Mayflower" comes from its location on what had been via land granted to English settlers by King George III as part of their colony'slarger purchase from France in 1785. Today, East Liverpool's downtown core contains several large commercial districts as well as a number of historical buildings dating back to its early days as an agricultural community: including churches (most notably St. Mary's Episcopal Church), two mills (one now occupied by Wexford Glass), and original courthouse and jail buildings erected during much of America's pre-industrial period.
In 1812, East Liverpool was founded by Captain James Cook as the town of Liverpool on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the mouth of the river and its natural resources such as coal, iron, and water. In 1825, the incorporated village of East Liverpool became a city with a population of 5,000. The city growth accelerated in 1830 when it merged with neighbouring townships to form a new unitary government. In 1841, City Hall was built in downtown East Liverpool to serve as a municipal seat for all of local government within the newly formed city. That same year saw construction begin on what is now known as City Hall Park across from City Hall. This park served as an important public space until 1971 when it was replaced by Greater Cleveland's first major sports stadium - Quicken Loans Arena - which still use part of its original landscape design. During World War II, East Liverpool played key roles in both the Battle of Krakow and Operation Market Garden (the Normandy invasion). In 1951, Mayor John Fenton dedicated Eastern High School's first gymnasium – also known as "The Works" – which served as home court for then-local high school basketball champion Kent State University Golden Flashes professional athletes during their seasons playing in Ohio Stadium outside Cleveland. In 1960, Eastern High School became one of only two schools in Ohio to be accredited by AdvancED Schools USA (now Eduardo Vargas HS), becoming one of American education's pioneer Academic "/ Professional Magnet Schools". In 1969-70 Eastern won back-to-back state championships in boys' basketball and girls' basketball; this marked only the second time that these teams had ever met each other in competition (the first meeting took place in 1922). On October 10th 1970, after sixty years service to East Liverpool/City Hall Park & eastern high school students alike our beautiful building finally succumbed to arson starting around 9pm that night tearing through glass panels & wiring throughout upper Lobby area prior doors leading up 2 flights into almost soundless inner sanctum... loss deals $2 million dollars To insurance company (& 2 more fires over next few years) In 1971–72 Union Local 810 successfully fought off plans by DowntownEastLiverpool Inc., led by future Mayor Tom Monaghan Sr., for demolition and replacement of old City Hall with a giant shopping mall on land leased from nearby Rubbermaids factory site just south of town limits; this fight helped spur community activism resulting ultimately in landmark redevelopment called "The People’s Mall". A comprehensive renovation and expansion project began Memorial Day Weekend 2002 following consent decree agreement reached between union Local 810 & municipality Officials/Developer David D’Angelo culminating in groundbreaking ceremony Saturday May 15th 2002 #EighthStreet #cityhallpark
