The area that would become East Liverpool was first settled by the Shawnee people in 1701. The town of East Liverpool was organized on October 15, 1824, from parts of Mentor and Medina counties. The site of present-day East Liverpool was chosen because it offered good access to water resources on Lake Erie and its port at Port Huron. The railroad arrived in 1851 and made eastLiverpool an important industrial center. By 1910, more than 80% of all manufacturing jobs were located there. Manufacturing continued to be a strong force throughout the 20th century; however, since the late 1990s it has been declining due to falling commodity prices and competition from larger cities such as Cleveland and Akron. In 2000, the City Council approved plans for a downtown redevelopment project which would have involved demolishing many old buildings and replacing them with new complexes designed for professional office use only. However, this plan met resistance from residents who felt their homes were valuable cultural heritage relics and wanted continue to live near their homes rather than see them destroyed. A compromise being worked out at the time called for demolition of some buildings but not all; instead they would be renovated into new housing units that could be used by low-income families who did not have enough money to replace their original structures outright or who needed help renovating them while they awaited construction permits that would allow them to live permanently in their properties. Construction never began due to lack of funding; however, local activists continue to fight for more development along waterfront areas east of I-71 which offer easy access to job opportunities outside of downtown East Liverpool proper

East Liverpool is a town in southeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 9,902 at the 2010 census. The name "East Liverpool" is derived from an English word meaning "place of common origin." The first Europeans to set foot in present-day East Liverpool were the French and their Indian allies who arrived in 1764 during the Seven Years' War. The area that would become East Liverpool was part of Muskingum County until 1825 when it became part of what is now Geauga County. In 1836, the village of East Liverpool was founded by Methodists on land patented to them by John Denny. They named their village for their pastor, Rev. James Swayne. During the 1830s and 1840s, many familiesigrated from eastern England to settle in what is now northeast Ohio because of economic opportunities opened up following American independence and westward expansion into new territory. Many German immigrants also came during this time period including some who settled along the Scioto River near modern day Cleveland. In 1851, a group of investors headed by David Hays formed the Hays Iron Company which began producing iron ore out of a small farmstead they located on present day Main Street in downtown East Liverpool. This early industry helped support local businesses such as those run by John Denny and his brother Ebenezer Denny which still operate today as Head Start School and Mrs.'s Pizza respectively. On October 25, 1894,residential blocks bounded by Third Avenue on the east side; First Avenue on the west side; Vine Street on its southwest corner; and Miami Road on its southeast corner were built for $1 per acre (unlimited lots available). These blocks are now known as "The Chain Blocks". From this point forward until 1925 there was no street grid or numbering system within present-day East Liverpool Township so all property deeds recorded with respect to streets ran east-west rather than north-south like they do today
It is said that the first Europeans to arrive in East Liverpool were the Musketeers, a group of Frenchmen who arrived in 1690. The area was then called Beechcroft Township and was part of Hamilton County. The first white settlers were Andrew Gregg and his family, who came to live in what is now the town of East Liverpool in 1786. In 1803, John Cranch came to live in what is now the town of Westlake and he named it after himself – East Liverpool. In 1824, Prentice & Co., a druggist and grocery store, opened up shop on Main Street in what is now the town of Westlake. In 1829, Captain John Fenton bought 10 acres of land at present-day Westhalle Creek for $1 per acre from George Wickenburg. This site would later become known as Fenton Park. In 1830, James Hogg built a cabin on this property and became the first settler in what is now the town of Westlake. Hogg also donated land for schools and churches in what is today the town of East Liverpool. By 1840, there were over 100 residents living within the limits of present-dayEast Liverpool
