East Cleveland, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 58,651 as of the 2010 census, making it the 11th-largest city in Ohio and 5th-largest in Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls–Pittsburgh Combined Statistical Area. East Cleveland was platted on April 2, 1813 by Nicholas HUTCHINSON and James DUNCAN with land purchased from the Wyandot tribe for $1,500. The town took its name from East Cleveland Township that had been organized two years earlier on February 14, 1812 by Captain John PENNSYLVANIA under the direction of Governor George Washington Potter. The first post office was established at East Cleveland on July 1, 1814 by Samuel THOMAS with "Hutchinson's Mills" as its name until changed to "East Cleveland" on October 15, 1817 after Hutchinsons mill burned down. In 1825, US Senator James KNOX moved his residence to what is now downtown and began a series of speeches entitled "The American System". On May 6, 1830 he delivered his famous speech before a large audience at First Baptist Church which helped spur economic development in East Cleveland while also sparking racial tension between races. The Erie Canal arrived in town in 1827 and started carrying cargo through town soon after becoming operational; this led to increased trade through the village and greater access to goods unavailable near by via boat or wagon ride. During this time many commercial enterprises developed including: Wm Aiken & Sons Millinery (1830-1910), LCT Glass Works (1836-present), Fenton Brothers Hats (1827-1851), JN Hecht Paper Merchants (1857-1922). Many factories closed during World War II due to shortages caused by wartime production demands; however some such as Fenton Brothers Hat reopened shortly afterwards once again producing hats for America's war effort until they were replaced by new hat manufacturers midway through the war due to lack of demand from overseas markets. This helped lead to an increase in housing prices around town following World War II although joblessness remains an issue today given recent growth rates within nearby suburbs such as Akron and Toledo

It was founded in 1836 by General John Wayne and named after Easton, Pennsylvania. In 1907 it became a part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The current mayor is Frank Jackson. The city's history can be traced back to 1836 when General John Wayne and his father-in-law George Stephenson founded Easton on the site of what is now downtown Cleveland. The city was incorporated on November 12, 1837. At first it consisted of only a few acres along the Cuyahoga River east of today's Quicken Loans Arena and north of Lake Erie Boulevard/Trinity Boulevard. In 1907, when Cleveland Metropolitan Area came into being, East Cleveland joined it as one of its five cities (the others wereAkron Beach Heights, Euclid Heights, Mayfield Heights, and Shaker Heights). In that year also came about the construction of Case Western Reserve University – one of America’s most prestigious universities – just south of town on much older land bought from the Indians by developer George Prentice Howe. Today there are over 20 businesses in East Cleveland that operate under more than 100 brands including PepsiCo,[2] Jamba Juice,[3] Wendy’s[4], Sears.[5][6] Mastercard US,[7][8] Ford Motor Company,[9] Macy’s[10], Apple Inc., Starbucks Coffee,[11][12][13] Home Depot,[14], etc.—all within walking distance or less if you know where to look!
East Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the eastern bank of the Cuyahoga River. The population was 50,521 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Greater Cleveland. The name "East Cleveland" is derived from its location on what was then known as "the East Side." The first Europeans to visit this area were the French in 1624 and Dutch traders in 1627. In 1792, East Cleveland became part of the United States when President George Washington issued a proclamation creating Detroit County, Michigan Territory. The following year, General James Kenedy took command of an army that invaded Canada and reached Lake Erie near present-day Toledo before turning back for lack of support east of that body of water. When news arrived back at West Point that General John Forbes had crossed overland from Canada and attacked Detroit Heights (now part of Akron), Commodore Perry called out 2,000 men to help repel Forbes' attack but only 350 men made it to Cincinnati Harbor before returning home because they needed to build boats for their voyage home. In 1807, land grants were given by the federal government to various towns along both banks of the Cuyahoga River: Morristown on the north side; Bridgeport on the south side; and East Cleveland on which lay westward then future business areas such as University Heights and Fremont streets eastwards towards downtown Cleveland proper including today's Quicken Loans Arena and Tower City development around Progressive Field which opened in 1904. One reason why these grantees chose East Cleveland as their site was its proximity to two major rivers – one flowing into Lake Erie opposite downtown while another flowed into Chesapeake Bay just across town – giving rise to early commercial ventures with goods being shipped downriver or upriver depending upon weather conditions or demand Estimates suggest that between 1800-1860 alone some 10 shipyards employing hundreds if not thousands dockworkers developed operations along both banks including those now included within today's city limits
