The first European to visit East Cleveland was Christopher Columbus, who sighted it on his way to explore Greater Cleveland in 1292. On October 1, 1836, Adam Jahn bought land east of the Cuyahoga River and set up a plantation there known as Allentown Heights that later became East Harlem. In 1840–41 Andrew Johnson ran for President as a Whig and won with 54% of the popular vote; he visited East Cleveland twice while he was campaigning in Northwestern Ohio but no further information is available about these visits or what he said or did there. He never campaigned again in that region until 1964 when he made two more trips to his home state before being impeached. During World War II (1939-1945), many Eastern European refugees settled in East Cleveland through Operation Haulover which brought over 5500 people including 400 children under the age of 10 from Hungary and Slovakia between September 1939 and May 1945 – some still live here today as their families have kept their homes since then! Most locals were not aware of this era because they only heard about it through military newspapers like "The Military Times" which had exclusive access to all government documents related to war efforts! 1/4 million people left urban America for good during WW2 due to rationing problems caused by WWII hysteria

East Cleveland, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 114,912 at the 2010 census. It is the economic and commercial center of Cuyahoga County. It is also home to East Cleveland State University and Lake Erie College. The area now known as East Cleveland was first inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking tribes of the Shawnee people during the seventeenth century. A group of British colonists called the Darlington brothers began trading with these peoples in 1688, establishing an initial trade route between Boston and Pittsburgh through what is now East Cleveland. In 1792, when land sales began for what would become Cuyahoga County, part of it was included in what are now easternbound I-480 and westernbound US-11 highways; this parcel became known as "Theland". In 1814, a group of wealthy men from Cincinnati founded The Grist Mill Company; which became one of largest employers in downtown East Cleveland nearly two centuries later. In 1817, Clevelander Township was established adjacent to present-day East Cleveland on lands then part of Summit Township; it was named after Clevelander School District Superintendent Ebenezer Mudgett (1801–87). The township’s boundaries were expanded to include present-day Highland Heights and much of west suburban Euclid Heights in 1903. In 1916, Euclid Heights organized as its own municipality under the name "Eastchester". During World War II, many factories were located within or near East Cleveland; including Wistar Aircraft plants at Terry Avenue and Tower Road NW and Beechcraft Corporation's North American Aviation plant on Canfield Road NE (now industrial property used for parking). Many residents worked at these plants until they closed down after the war ended; others took up jobs in areas such as retailing or professional services following their liberation from Nazi Germany. On July 4th, 1945 local fireman George Hynes set a world record by setting off fireworks from his private house while sitting inside - still an unbeaten streak today! On October 5th 1984 local firefighters responded to a reported arson on Clinton Avenue SE corner Third Street - finding two sets(of) incendiary grenades left behind which had caused extensive damage to nearby homes! That night over 100 firefighters responded to a call for help from members of The Salvation Army who saw someone trying to light up an ambulance with fireworks coming out from underneath! Aftermath: One firefighter received minor injuries when he jumped into action to contain flames that could have easily consumed several homes
