East Cleveland is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 97,711 at the 2010 census. Beginning in 1840s large-scale land speculation led to rapid growth in east Liverpool Township to the south and west of downtown; this area became known as "The Strip". At its peak during 1907–1908 there were over 100 small businesses employing more than 1,000 people manufacturing everything from shoes to automobiles; today only about 50 remain active statewide or locally. One such company which thrived until 2013 was Jiffy Lube – founded in 1911 – which employed between 350 and 450 people manufacturing bearings at their plant located on Euclid Avenue near Winton Road; today all but two buildings are gone thanks to fire damage sustained during bankruptcy proceedings several years ago.
