This article will explore some key aspects of East Cleveland’s history with regard to ammunition purchases and production/use over the years: In 1892 Payne & Halsey opened up shop along Euclid Avenue serving just locals at that time while larger dealers were established around town later on including Armour Mfg., JIHL Manufacturing Co., Pabst Brewing & Malting Co,. Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded in 1795 by Samuel Colt (the father of modern firearms) making them one of America’s oldest firearms manufacturers. At that time there were only seven rifles being made per day with prices starting at $3 each! Today these same munitions giants are responsible for producing millions upon millions rounds each year for Americans all over the world! Ammunition played an integral role during America’s formative years as she navigated her way through World War 1 (1914-18), becoming one of only two countries on Earth not To Do So; this despite having 30 million troops fighting on three fronts! Conversely WW2 saw Ammo sales increase tenfold reaching $1 billion dollars against total costs estimated at $27 billion! During this carnage significant advancements were made both in technology as well as manufacturing processes which have led us today into what we consider “The Golden Age Of Ammunition Production” where innovation continues apace!

East Cleveland was founded by the Potawatomi Indians in 1795. The area that is now East Cleveland was part of the Shawnee Indian Reserve until 1818, when President James K. Polk ceded it to the United States as part of the Treaty of Fort Dearborn. The town was platted in 1824 and named for General David Denny, who had been a leader in Ulysses S. Grant's Railroad Campaign against Native Americans in 1864. In 1870, East Cleveland became an incorporated village with a population of 593. It lost its incorporated status in 1954, but has kept its name and history since then.
