Dublin, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Fayette County. The population was 17,824 at the 2010 census[1] and was expected to exceed 20,000 by 2020. The area that now makes up Dublin was first settled by Shawnee Indians in the late 18th century. In 1803, General David Wilkinson built a fortification here called Fort Gratiot on land that he donated to Prussia in order to protect his new colony from British attack.[2] Dublin began its growth as a town after being chartered by an act of Congress on November 12, 1825,[3] following its incorporation as a village on January 1, 1826.[4][5][6][7] On December 3, 1830,[8] it became an incorporated place under the name "Dublin" with a population of 755 residents;[9][10] however its growth continued unabated until 1840 when it had reached 1030 residents and by 1850 it had increased to 1450 residents;[11][12][13][14]. A fire destroyed much of downtownDublin on November 15, 1851,[15], but due to efforts led by Mayor John Ahern (1829–1857) and others including Jno Cahery (1827–1902), business recommenced quickly and within two months all trade except smelting operations had resumed;[16]:146 The buildings which were destroyed were replaced with frame structures used for government functions such as City Hall which still stands today inside the limits of Park Row Historic District. After years during which no major progress was made in restoring or replacing old structure damage caused during earlier fires – especially since competing interests among businesses prevented any concerted effort towards salvaging what could be saved – an official committee consisting primarily of citizens' groups met early in 1934 under then-Mayor James Laughlin to recommend ways “to resuscitate” downtown Dublin’s function and attractiveness” because “the continuing paralysis brought about not only inconvenience but also social deterioration leading ultimately to physical decline”([17]), resulting finally in passage by both housesof Congress creating New York Avenue between Euclid Street NW and Franklin Street NE plus five blocks north thereof asprising bounded streets providing access thereto forming “New Downtown Ireland” while vesting property therein into municipal ownership subject only theretooriginal public square remaining open day & night ever since renamed McCracken Plaza—a development strategy document entitled "Statement Regarding Development Plans For Downtown Dublin" setting forth goals for that community appeared before City Council twentyfive days later setting forth plans for designation & improvement thereunder has resulted [sic], particularly marvelous clinical work having been accomplished I am confident will result from this program

Hanna’s cabin served as a meeting place for early settlers and as their winter quarters during the years that they were waiting for help from Mother Nature to start building their homes. In 1821–22 three families relocated from Cincinnati (Ohio) – James Kappis, John Cook and Isaac O’Leary – to establish a farmstead called “The Grange” south of present day First Street and Lebanon Road on land grant from George Washington Harris. This location would become known as Dublin because George Washington Harris donated land for this purpose and also because his widow Elizabeth founded Stowe House School there in 1827 after her husband’s death while serving in Congress as Minister at war with Great Britain (the school was later renamed Harvard College). In 1830 two more families moved into Ireland: Richard Potter and his wife Julia; they established a farmstead called “Finchfield” about five miles southwest of today’s Second Street east of where Third Avenue meets Fourth Street near Muskegon Heights Cemetery today. Finchfield would become known as Dublin due to its proximity to both President James Kappis' "Granite Hall" estate located east of Third Avenue across Thirdbrook Drive which also housed Kappis' private household staff including cook Josephine Goddard as well as store keeper Amos Kendall (founder's son) . After Potters died soon after moving there his widow Julia continued running the property until her death in 1865; then it passed through several hands before coming into ownership by Eamon de Valera who sold it off following World War II primarily for agricultural use but also hosting various government meetings inside its walls such as Bretton Woods conferences between 1948-1953 which took place at Manx Harbour Naval Base adjacent to De Valera's home turf having originally been planned at White Sands Missile Range opposite New Mexico town Grantsville .) 2nd street west from 3rd avenue north
