Dover, Ohio is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,584 at the 2010 census. Dover is located on the western edge of the Miami-Ohio River Valley and is bordered by the towns of Holmesburg and Muskingum to the north and east, Ashtabula to the south, and Dayton to the west. The first European settlement in what is now Dover happened in 1795 when Englishman Giles Wright came across land that he thought might be worth exploring. He founded a small outpost on what is now Rapids Road near present-day Dover High School. In 1814, John Denton established a small community on land purchased from William Cobb for $8 per acre. The name "Dover" was given to this new community by General George Washington during his visit to Delaware County two years earlier. In 1827, James Fenton bought 640 acres (248 hectares) of land adjacent to present-day Dover from British settler John Phelps Dodge. This area became known as Phelpsville after Fenton's father-in-law who had donated it. In 1830, Dover married Anna Maria Swayne (1802–1889), daughter of Nicholas Swayne of Allendale Township (now Muskingum). They raised four children: Anna Mariaa Dorothy Fenton born December 12th 1830; James Addison Phelps born November 21st 1832; Elizabeth Ann Phelps born October 25th 1835; and Charles Augustus Phelps born December 8th 1840. In 1839, Andrew Johnson visited its location while campaigning for president and called it "Dover Heights". On July 4th 1840 Governor George Wirtz made a speech at Riverside Church concerning Fort Wayne's impending defense against attack by Great Britain which included remarks about "the good people of Dover." The townspeople voted unanimously in November 1840 to become an unincorporated village under the leadership of Daniel Webster with their own government headquarter within one mile (1 kilometer) of their homes as well as schools and churches separate from those in Fort Wayne proper - this decision has been cited as one reason why Fort Wayne began slow decline following its victory over Great Britain at Battle Of Lake Erie three years earlier that summer - though some historians claim that this failure may have been due more to fortuitous events than anything else related to Dover's incorporation into Fort Wayne proper. During World War II many American citizens chose notto evacuate their homes because they believed their country would fight side by side with America against Nazi Germany – something that did not happen however major skirmishes took place along US/British borders throughout much of Europe resulting in millions killed or displaced persons – also happening right here in America including many military personnel stationed here such as Lieutenant Colonel Chester Kappenberger whose unit fought at Normandy beachhead

Dover, Ohio is a small town located in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 694 at the 2010 census. Dover was platted in 1827 and became a village in 1871. It was incorporated as a city in 1907. In 1932, Dover merged with the neighboring town of Great Miami to form what is now known as the City of Dayton. Dover began as a small farming community on the Scioto River near the confluence of that river and the Maumee River. The community grew around Methodist missionary Dr. Joseph Brown's home and other buildings he built there between 1827 and 1830. In 1831, Dover annexed the neighboring town of Great Miami; this annexation caused much concern because Great Miami had been established as an independent township less than two miles north of where Dover resided. The city of Dayton was founded by citizens of both villages who pooled their resources to purchase land east of State Route 22 on what is now known as Boulevard Drive (now US 20). When it became apparent that Dayton would become too large for its own government to manage, it merged with Great Miami on December 15, 1932.
