Dover, Ohio is home to one of the oldest ammunition factories in the United States. The factory was founded in 1824 by David Dixon and his partners John Stephenson and Nathaniel Myrick. Ammunition production began at the factory on October 8, 1827. The company produced a wide variety of ammunition including shot, cannonball, musket ball, powder loaders, grenades, and incendiary devices. The company also manufactured pistols and rifles. In 1875 the company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Winchester Industries Incorporated. In 1907 Winchester-Winchester Industries merged with Remington Arms Corporation to form Remington Rand Company. In 1912 Remington Rand merged with Browning Firearms Corporation to form Browning-Remington Corporporated. In 1916 Browning-Remington Corporation merged with American Firearms Corporation to become American Ammunition Company Incorporated. After World War I ammunition production decreased as weapons were replaced by new technology such as machineguns and artillery pieces; however, during World War II ammo production increased as munitions were needed for both World War I and World War II campaigns in Europe and Asia

Dover, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Dover is known for its manufacturing plants and businesses, as well as its tourism industry. The town was founded in 1837 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife Charlotte Bowen Forrest. Today, Dover is an agricultural center that produces hay, oats, potatoes, corn and other crops. The primary industries have changed over the years but the name of the town has not: In 1837 the name of the town was "Dover Heights", while in 1907 it reverted to "Dover". The first permanent settler in Dover was Jethro Gibbs on March 21st, 1837. By 1840 there were 10 residents living in Dover Township: 5 men and 5 women. A school started operation on September 1st of that year with 4 students: Anna Morse (1841-1912), Fannie Lowrey (1843-1925), Amasa Paige (1845-1924) and Lucilla Morse Barrett (1847-1920). In 1846 a post office opened with one letter per day service: "Dover." On December 15th of that year two citizens - Samuel Latham & John Davenport - offered to donate land for a public square if it would be possible to get $5 from each person who moved in during January 1st; this offer failed because no one wanted to move into an empty square! On February 14th 1850 James Sutherby donated a lot northeast of present day George Street for use as a Greek Orthodox Church cemetery; this donation became effective on May 7th 1850 due to forfeiture by Alexander McNaught when he died without descendants able to claim it In 1861 Dover's first blacksmith shop opened up just east of today's Downtown Mall; this shop was closed down around 1970s There have been six mayors since 1870 including Wm Halsey Farnsworth who served from 1865 until his death in 1895 A variety of manufacturing plants have been located throughout Dover over time: these include Butternut Machine Works beginning production in 1924; National Can Company beginning production in 1936; Dodge Caravan Division starting production at their factory north of downtown in 1945; American Weldon Corporation beginning production near where they now produce tires at their plant south of downtown in 1951; Erie Lackawanna Railway begins operations between Portsmouth Junction and Elyria leaving through Delaware Avenue Depot station on July 2nd 1953 becoming part of Conrail before being privatized on April 12th 1996 which led to many job cuts across all divisions culminating with layoffs at American Weldon Corporation revealing serious long term problems within that company This article does not cover those companies because they are multiples times larger than what is covered here. Today most people visit or live within the city limits which are located east off I-680 about 30 minutes away from downtown Dayton proper although some continue farming within southeastern Morrow County . The name of the town comes from DEWORTON orDownsborough Township which was first settled by English colonists in 1684. The township was named for Sir George Downes who had been appointed by King James II to explore and map out new British North America. In 1812, Dover voted to become part of Indiana Territory and the following year it organized as a county seat of Delaware County. On February 14, 1816, Delaware County merged with Summit County to form Summit County Township, Dover. In 1825, Dover became one of nineteen townships within Scioto County when that county was formed from parts of Stark and Butler counties. On November 5, 1830, Scioto County gained its own independent government when it created Defiance Township (now Defiance Heights). On January 1st, 1836, Dover became an unincorporated community within Scioto County when its incorporation into the larger county failed to gain enough support from residents.
