In Delaware, Ohio, the first documented expansion of mounts took place in 1792 when a group of settlers from what is now West Virginia moved to the area and erected a wooden tower on an island in the Scioto River. The new settlers were able to do so because they had permission from the British government to use an Indian hunting ground as their Settlement Reserve. In 1817, another group of pioneers moved into what is now Delaware County and began erecting forts along the Scioto River. These forts were used as military posts and also served as bases for exploring and trading with the Native nations in eastern Ohio. By 1830, there were several hundred people living in Delaware County and some Hadley Hill Forks had been built. The first permanent settler in Ohio was John Nicholson who arrived in 1831. By 1840, there were over 1,000 people living in Delaware County and more than 60 forts had been erected.
Delaware, Ohio is a small city in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The population was 5,539 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County and home to Delaware Valley College. The area that now Delaware was first settled by Europeans in the late 18th century. The first American town to be founded in what is now Delaware was Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on July 4, 1796. In 1830, this town became part of Ohio when it became a state. Originally called Uniontown because its residents were most likely from Union County in Kentucky, the name Delaware originated with General George Washington's army as they traveled through southeastern Ohio during their stay in 1799-1800. General Washington's troops stopped at an encampment on both sides of the River Duquesne near present-day Wilmington before continuing their journey north towards Pittsburgh. One account has it that General Washington named his unit "the detachment from Delaware" after his flagship HMS "Delaware". A mill built by James Prentice near modern day Dovercourt began operating around 1800 and soon produced flour for marketplaces throughout central Indiana and northern Kentucky (then part of Virginia). By 1815 there were over 20 mills manufacturing flour hereabouts; some still operates today! The flour trade attracted many settlers who platted what is now known as downtown Delaware on land donated by Captain John Denton in 1825 – one of America’s earliest industrial towns! Some early pioneers including George Stephenson erected stone buildings which still stand today overlooking the riverfront just east of Copley Square – birthplace of Cleveland’s first mayor! Finally on November 1st 1836 when Purchasing & Widdrie granted deed #2 platting out 2 square miles lying south side &west bank Erie Canal towpath opposite lock @ 2¢ per acre surveyed & named Alexandria after his wife Anna Maria della Rovere…..the original Town lots had been patented 8/1/1824!!

These developments along with continuing population growth over time have resulted in increased housing options available within walking distance not only for students but also their families should they desire it given high school graduation rates continue outpacing rural school graduates statewide .
Delaware, Ohio was first settled by the Delaware tribe of Indians in the late 17th century. The area that is now Delaware, Ohio was part of the Northwest Territory until it became a state in 1801. In 1803, the area became known as the Miamisburg District and then as Athens Township. On February 14, 1825, Athens Township voted to become one of three townships in Brown County, Indiana; however, on November 9, 1830, Athens Township voted to secede from Brown County and become an independent township under the name of Delaware. On January 3, 1831, Delaware organized as a city with a population of 10 residents. On July 2nd of that year Delaware merged with Stroudsburg to form Dearborn City.
