Delaware, Ohio is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 925 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first evidence of habitation in what is now Delaware comes from Paleo-Indian times. Small groups of these early settlers traveled west and east along the Great Lakes searching for new land to settle. In 1797, James Todds founded what would become Delaware as a post office on the Scioto River northwest of Youngstown. On July 1, 1800, it became a town when General David Kaler took possession of the site from local Native Americans following their battle with American forces at Sandusky Heights. The first settler in what would become Delaware was James Todds who arrived on July 1st 1800 from Scotland via Fayetteville (now Dayton). After reaching his destination he started building a cabin on Creek Banks northeast of Youngstown while other pioneers continued moving upstream to stake their claim to land near where the Scioto River flows into Lake Erie today. By 1817 more than fifty homes had been erected and by 1820 there were over two hundred residents living in what would become Delaware Township which extended northward to include most of present day Akron including parts of both Fairport and Toledo before splitting off again and becoming its own township in 1827. By 1830 there were over one thousand people living in this area making it one of the largest concentrations of Anglo-American settlers in any Upper Midwest settlement during that time period During the Jacksonian Era (1829–1856) many Dutch families left their original settlements around Cleveland for western Ohio because they felt they had no right to remain after Andrew Jackson's victory over John Quincy Adams' forces at Battle Of Tiffin (1812). With increasing tension between Great Britain and America growing evermore intense, many Dutch colonists decided that this was their best chance to secure residency or citizenship within British America so they could continue enjoying access to education and opportunity that was denied them within America itself – something that many remained unable or unwilling do until after World War II . Consequently, by 1830 about eighty percent of allDutch families residing in upper Michigan had relocated eastward across the Susquehanna River into Pennsylvania as well as eastern Indiana/Ohio . At this time much like later development patterns throughout northwestern Ohio follow natural growth corridors such as those found along streams or rivers which provide easy access to goods transported downstream via waterpower technology; thus due south stretching Beckham Dam property line lay down parallel with then newly formed Monongahela River Valley creating opportunities for extensive agriculturallands lying adjacent favorable soils rich with lime etc., ideal sites for dam construction purposes….
