The company ceased operations in 1963.
The town of Defiance, Ohio is located in the extreme northwestern corner of the United States. It is bordered to the east by Michigan, to the north by Kentucky and Indiana, and to the west by Pennsylvania. The population of Defiance was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Defiance was laid out in 1814 as a trading post between British traders and native nations. The town became a settlement in 1821 when it was set off from Youngstown, then part of Ohio. In 1825, Defiance became a county seat. A courthouse and jail were built in 1827, and a school opened in 1830. In 1840, settlers founded another community near present-day Defiance called Clintonville. That community failed within a few years due to lack of support from local officials. In 1845, however,defiant created its own government with an elected mayor and recorder. During World War II (1939-1945),Defiance was occupied by Japanese forces for two months during December 1941-January 1942 while they prepared for an attack on Pearl Harbor.. The town's only resident killed during that time was Enoch Slaughter who died fighting with Japanese troops at an airfield outside Ofallon Township

Defiance was a small town in Steuben County, Ohio, United States during the early 19th century. It is notable for its role in the American Revolution and for being the site of the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The first European to enter Defiance was Hugh Mercer in 1796. The community sprang up around a Methodist church on the east bank of the Scioto River. By 1814, it had a population of about 150 people. In 1813, Indians attacked defenseless Defiance residents and burned their homes. In response, local militia forces led by Captain John Clements destroyed five Indian villages near Defiance between September and October 1813. This event is also known as the Battle of Fallen Timbers. After this victory over Indian resistance, British troops began withdraw from Steuben County and abandoned Defiance in favor of another settlement called Xenia on May 4, 1814. A group of area farmers decided to keep Defiance open as an agricultural village until they could find a better location nearby. They named their new community after George Washington because he had been an important figure in their lives growing up. The Village remained underfoot until 1850 when it was abandoned due to increasing Population density along with lack of water resources close toby which made farming impossible without large amounts of capital investment which never materialized
On November 8, 1813, the United States of America was founded. The following year, Defiance County was created in Ohio as part of the new country. The county seat was originally built at Youngstown but moved to Defiance in 1836.
