In 1970–71, redevelopment began in Downtown Dayton resulting in more than 1 million sq ft (1002 m2) of new construction including high-rise apartments; this activity continued until 2003 when downtowns redevelopment project was cancelled due to budget cuts within City Hall caused by overall economic decline throughout Greater Toledo area which affected many large metropolitan areas around America
